India made Rifle Factory Ishapore. 308/7.62mm Nato caliber. Takes a square box 10 or 12 round magazine made for the rifle and not a 303 magazine.

I didn't see a magazine, so incase you're missing it, the link has repro mags.

They are good rifles made from high quality steel.

I wish I still had mine.

You may be in a bit of trouble if you don’t have the magazine. .303 mags don’t work. Reproduction mags are garbage. Originals can be tough to find. Hit eBay, they appear from time to time.

The link I posted above also has original mags, as well.

How much did you give for it?

I saw that. Looks like they have a couple of original 10rd magazines in stock. If OP needs one, I'd buy one of those pretty quickly.

Absolutely!   The Indian steel is of excellent quality and more than up to the task of handling 7.62 NATO ammunition.

Nice find OP.  Could you please post s range report if you choose to shoot it?

150$ gun and bayonet. I sold the bayonet for 60$.
It came with a magazine. I had left it out during the picture.

I have not got to shoot it yet.. Luckily I have a metric-S-ton of pulled M80 projos and powder.

Nice Ishapore. I have one from 1968. Good shooter depending on what ammo you use. Terrible feeding from the mag though since it wasn't matching...

Those jungle rifles have always caught my eye.
Could I use this to make one of those ?

And the safety doesn't want to stay in safe. It is a better bet to put this one on half cock.
magazine is same serial #

Had one that was a good shooter, after I bought an extractor.  Should have kept it but, oh well, as they say. I would not shoot hot commercial .308 but 7.62 NATO should be GTG.

.308 and 7.62 have the same max pressure..you can shoot either one....as they are essentially the same...

would be cheaper to buy a jungle carbine,  vs make on from this,

safety should be an easy fix,

btw, go over to gunboards and post the serial number and date in the thread 4thgordons has, he is doing a database on the Indian 2a's and 2a1's
