Made by Alfred Jenks & Son, Bridesburg and Philadelphia, PA. From what I understand it was delivered about Dec. of 1863.

It's a copy of the 1861 Springfield Rifled Musket. AJ&S made around 100K muskets of all types under contract for the Union.

It's still in serviceable shape with a good bore. No stock cracks. It could use a new drum clean-out screw as the one in it is buggered but moves freely and the longest rear sight leaf is broken off.

The bayonet matches the patina of the rifle.

I'm not real sure about the sling but it has a NJ maker's mark on it.

That is very cool.  Please don't tell us you found it at a garage sale for $25.

Fix the cleanout screw and shoot it. Looks like the stock has had the bejeezus sanded out of it but nice otherwise. If the sling is original, nice score.
