Where can I pick up a 1/2-28 thread chaser.  Need to clean up some muzzle threads.  I see lots of dies but having trouble find a thread chaser.  Or maybe I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking at.

A lot of the finishing dies have the option to slightly adjust them to vary metal removal - maybe something like that would be what you need?

Normal online sources would be cheaper as it's a common thread size

McMaster Carr has them as thread repairing dies.

They don't show a 1/2-28

Second that. 1/2 x 28 is NOT a common thread size. It is a machine thread. Not available at Lowe’s etc.

Look at this and see if it will work.

Check drillsandcutters.com for an adjustable die. I've bought a bunch of taps and dies from them. Reasonable pricing/shipping and usually out the same day.

If you're buying Chinese tooling anyway - just buy it on ebay. It's cheaper there.

$11.33 shipped here.

$8.49 shipped here.

would a thread file work?

I typically find using a thread file works better than chasing with a die for "issues" and "oops"

Could take a flash suppressor, saw a sharp groove or two across the threads and use it to clean up threads.

Good luck finding a 60° 28tpi thread file.

OP - if you want to use a file just try a steady hand and a triangular file.

Thats just a standard die.

Look for an "adjustable die" and set it to barely remove any metal
(spin on without cutting).
Then tighten it down as desired to clean up the thread.

You serious? I have one in my drawer, they're quite common. 28 tpi is a very common thread pitch.
