I was wondering if anyone here has every heard of someone taking a Swiss K31 or any other Swiss rifle for that matter and having it re chambered to .308. I've heard of people accidentally firing .308 in swiss rifles and they work...even if it is poorly. Im not saying Im doing this or even advocating someone doing it but just curious it its been done. K31s with bad bores seem like they'd be hard to find anyway. Not gunna lie a 6.5 Mememoor K31 sounds kinda neat

I was tempted to re-barrel one in 6.5 Swede but never got around to it

I have one.  But the rebarrelling job was done in Switzerland.

The K-31 is ridiculously complicated with many tricky cam angles.  They can only be rebarrelled at the factory in Switzerland.  It takes lots of very specialized equipment to rebarrel  a K-31

There was one gunsmith in the US doing K31 barrel work. He is no longer working. K31's are difficult, the gunsmith did say if you are looking to rebarrel the earlier Swiss series are easy. Lothar Walther has barrels for the earlier series.

A K-31 is the same bore sized as a .308. There used to be a guy by me reaming them out in .308.

I was asked to look at a swiss sniper rifle.

Turns out it was a K11 reamed to .308 win and with a bubba scope mounted.   The old gent didn’t want to believe he did not have a swiss sniper rifle.

There is always the option of just finding a sporterized 1911 or 96/11 chambered in 308 WIN. These rifles were done commercially in the 1950's by several companies.

Before I bought my K-31 I was researching and found an article where a gunsmith molested a K-31 with bedding and all sorts of work and when he was finished the gun shot worse than when he started. It was a lesson.  That article is long gone from the internet

The question is.... why?
you can still get GP11 7.5x55 for ~$1 a round you will not get anything more accurate off the shelf for $1 a round in 308 or 6.5

if you want a 1 MOA 6.5 Creedmoor, get a Tikka, glass it, and don't molest a milsurp.

If you want a gun to shoot "cheap" 308 in thats cool and milsurp... there are MANY .308 chambered mausers (Isreali, Chilean) and of course the Indian 2A/2A1 enfield. Not as accurate but theyll digest the poorest quality ammo and ask for more.

I have a 96/11 I inherited that was professionally converted to .308. It is quite accurate.

This rifle shoots one inch groups at 100 yards all day long

The 7.5 Swiss is a hair larger than a .308/ 7.62mm.

A simple clean up chamber reamer can convert .308 to 7.5 Swiss but not the other way around.
