Next, I will cover with JB Weld and then finish shaping.

I bought 5 of these a few years ago.  Got a couple that were not stored on a world war 2 U-boat and used them as camo projects.

Digging the little grippy lines I filed...

I noticed after a few coats that there were fiberglass fuzzies that were getting painted.

I’ll let it dry/cure and then sand them lightly.  If needed, then another light coat.

Cure time... 10-14 days.

24 hours before I can put on the recoil pad and rails.

Which pad did you buy?   I'm having a hard time finding one that fits because of the metal liner size.   Specifically Pachmayr Decelerator.

I did one a while back. Gutted the inner forend and epoxied carbon fiber rods to minimize flex.

Wish I could find pics.

Helped with my accuracy in my SOCOM a lot.

Guppy Lump is the greatest angled fore grip ever invented; more comfortable, ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing!

For the same reason, I used bedding compound (Bisonite) to install used hacksaw blades (who doesn't have some?) on both sides and the bottom of the front of the stock.
Just be careful on the bottom that there is clearance for the op rod guide.

I was going to chop the LOP anyhow, and installing a Hogue recoil pad.

But, after grinding and drilling off the heads of the screws, they were still rusted to the nut and sling mount.

So...

Filled the gap:

I’ll sand and shape tomorrow.

Smoothed our the butt, in preparation for filling with wood (for the screws of the recoil pad).

Super easy.

Bondo or JB Weld.  Bondo holds up fine.  JB is more durable.  Bondo is WAY easier to sand.

First, sand the inside of the gap.

Drill a few holes for "rebar."   I have used small screws and I have used small wooden dowels.  This time I used wood.
A few drops of wood in the holes and emplace your "rebar."

On the inside of the stock, tape an old ID card or similar plastic to serve as a backstop/mold.

Mix your material (JB or Bondo).

Pack it into the gap (using plastic to press into all the gaps and nooks), ensuring that there is enough extra to sand and shape.

Wait for cure.

Sand and shape.

If there are flaws, apply more JB/Bondo and sand.

Thanks!  I might have to order a stock and try this out.  I don't need any more projects, and I don't have an M1A, but I'll probably do it anyways.

I built up a stock in a similar fashion many years ago. Also started with a Numrich U.S.G.I. stock. Cut down with a rubber pad, fattened and made more vertical the grip, put a small lip below the op rod to keep fingers off, added texture to grip areas, and used fiberglass internally to stiffen the fore end.  The action itself is a Warbird build and it's a gem. I originally had a Vortex on it but went to a Surefire brake and WOW!! Huge improvement in controllability. I used PC-7 epoxy along with drywall screw "rebar" and cuts into the stock to give the epoxy a good grip much like you did and it has held up extremely well over the years.
