Do you have a local hardware store? That would be cheaper than postage.

Check with Damage Industries.  They ship a lot of small parts, free of charge for shipping.

I don't think lack of lubrication was your issue.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but were you using pliers to try to install it ?
The terms 'squeezed' and 'crushed' makes me think so.

No need to squeeze them, roll pins are supposed to be driven in with a punch, and little ones like the bolt catch pin can be a bugger without the right punch.
People do make roll pin starting punches, made just for that little sucker. They have a hole on the end to keep the roll pin in place, and in line, and a flat side to clear the receiver.

Just don't buy the cheapest one you can find, as the cheap ones, like Wheeler (Midway USA's house brand, made in cha-cha-china) suck.

I either pinch down the leading edge of roll pins, or grind/sand a chamfer, to get them to start easier.

You should try a coil/spiral pin. They are MUCH easier to install

Actually using pliers to squeeze in the roll pins is much faster, easier and less likely to damage the pin or mar the receiver than using the traditional roll pin starter punch and roll pin punch, if using the right pliers..Knippex smooth jaw. Just did 2 yesterday.

By squeezing one end together to get it to start easier, you just reduced the holding power of the roll pin.
To each there own....

This is the best, most fail proof method I've seen for putting in Bolt Catch pins. Maybe ever.

"Easy Installation of A Bolt Catch Pin" https://youtu.be/8-6YW81-T4o

Also, if you have a Fastenal in your town, they'll hook you up. Of course you'll end up with a small bag of 10 or so of whatever you get, but it's cheap. I've gotten replacement handguard screws from them and they'll match thread pitch, size, etc.
