i already gave the entire gun a thorough scrubdown and checked for burrs. i then replace all 3 gas rings with new ones (thanks BCM for the fast shipping!).

i never found the 1/3 ring that was missing.

is that anything to be concerned about?

No.
It probably wasn't there to begin with, or it fell out when you disassembled it

If you checked for burrs or rough spots inside the carrier, and everything looked ok, I wouldn't worry about it. Keep the new gas rings well lubed and keep an eye on them each time you clean your weapon.

it was definitely there at the last cleaning. i have a roll of paper on my bench and pull it out like a butcher to work on/clean my rifles just so i don't lose anything (or mess up the bench). i ALWAYS inspect everything when i clean my firearms.

........but it was completely gone. i disassembled the bolt and removed the trigger group and still found nothing.

I'm not going to argue with you but gas rings don't just disappear.

i know, and i'm not trying to argue. i didn't know if it was possible for the piece to have fallen out of the rifle, or where else i should look for the piece so it doesn't cause problems in the future.

....and thanks to both of you for the replies.

The rings extend past the two openings in the side of the carrier and leave openings into the area the gas has filled so it vents. The piece could may have been blown out one of the two holes in the side of the carrier and out the ejection port as it moved to the rear.

Also there have been pics of some that appeared melted to points on the end maybe from bad material.
