Tried searching for this with no luck. I'm sure this has been discussed here somewhere. I need a couple of ambidextrous safety setups for my AR's. Have lost the use of my right eye and have to now shoot shotgun and rifle left handed. Have a shorty and a Colt LE6920. Am seeking recommendations for ambidextrous safety levers. I see many offerings on the sites such as Midway and others. Just need some recommendations.

I’m a lefty, the very best is the Radian, but if your looking for something more budget friendly, try the Aim Surplus AR Ambi V2+. $19.95 and it is a 45/90 with one large and one short lever. Not as smooth as the Radian, but for $20 cheaper, it’s not bad.

Radian hands down, then the BAD ones, then the common steel ones with the bolt on the one side, Colt/DPMS/ETC. with the short lever.

What do you like about the Radian vs BAD? I have a BAD, but tend to like the cheap KAC knockoffs a little more. Although the BAD is mounted on a lower that doesn’t have the best safety action

As long as you do not mind long lever both sides, Schmid Tool. >$20 and solid kit.

PSA, Botach, Midway, Brownells all have carried them at one point.

If you do not need both levers, buy a Colt reversible with single lever.

Damage Industries has several different ambi safeties that are a little more on the budget side.  One is a 90, one is a 45 degree throw.  I have one of the 45's and like it.

Seeing how you already have a Colt I would look at the safety you already have.

Colt makes a single sided safety that can be switched around to the other side of the lower.

Just remove your grip and dont lose the spring and detent. Remove the safety and look to see if it has the detent channel cut on both sides of the safety. If it has it on both side swap it over to the other side and reinstall the grip

Over time, Ive moved to the BAD levers.  They've held up well, do what I require and have a nice fit/finish.

These are very good for the money, I have a couple, in addition to a couple of the Radian models.

PSA’s ambi that costs about $25 is awesome. You can choose the long or short throw and the levers are less in the way.  If you need to switch over a bunch of ARs on a budget, I’d certainly recommend checking out one of these as it’s the most economical option that isn’t junk.

i just went from having no Ambi safeties to having ambi safties on all my ARs.  Once i found out how easy they are to install it was a no brainer.  Have used colt, sionics and psa units and probably like the colt the best. No clear winner though as all function just fine.

My 2c. Make sure that whatever you pick lets you put the short lever on the LEFT side of the gun if you're gonna shoot lefty.

Another vote for Radian. You also have a wide selection of long and short levers with slightly different knurling to them. So you can really tailor it to your likes on both sides.

I don’t like the fancy ones but love the KAC ambi kit.

I like the Joe Bob's option.  One lever normal, one scalloped/chopped (for off-side). Option of 90 or 60 degree throw.  Cheap - $15 stand alone, or comes in their "enhanced" LPK w/ the no-grip option and the option to add an Ergo grip (that I'd buy anyway), and a very decent trigger for a princely sum of $60ish.

I did a Radian on my current rifle over the bad and I would definitely recommend it. It's very positive and 45 is one of those things that once you try it, it's very hard to go back. One thing I will warn though is check the detent channel before you install it. I might be the only one but mine was filled with dried machining soap and I fought with it for a while before I discovered it.

I have a bunch of BAD CASS 45 degree selectors that cost a fortune back in the day. Radian is 40% less, every selector has the option of 45 or 90 degrees. No stupid lawyer pin to file off of a 45 degree selector. No screws to screw with. The spring loaded plunger setup works perfectly on the Radian. Radian is lighter too.

I 2nd this. This is what I was about to type. I have broken several screws off in the center barrel of the BAD selector and had to replace it. Now I have switched every rifle I own over to the Radian and love them, better function, better price and no breakage.

Same with JoeBobOutfitter's offering... but JBO is $15 per safety... and free shipping if you end up ordering $90+ in parts

I've got crossbolt safeties on every rifle that can take them. I think they are much quicker to use without shifting hand position much and they don't get in the way. Either the side of my trigger finger (usually about the second knuckle) or my thumb depending on which hand I'm using. One downside is that the direction is "reversed" if you switch hands. IE, taking it off safe uses the side of your trigger finger when using your left hand, but uses your thumb when using your right hand. That could be an issue if you have to use the off hand in a crisis situation and your muscle memory is based on using your trigger finger on the side of the safety.

PS. And it is harder to pretend you have a giggle switch on your AR.

+1 on this. I also have the 45 degree.  It is not quite a smooth as the Radians I have, but a good slightly less costly alternative.
