Just spent 5m with the range finder in my house. Longest hallway shot is 11.5 yards. Is there a reason I SHOULD NOT zero this 7" 300blk at 11yds? It's got a small BDC reticle that I can then use and test for longer ranges but I’m confident this rifle wouldn’t leave the house
Thoughts?

Am I overthinking this? If you have data to share about a 25yd zero and a 10yd shot, I’d love to see it!

I zero red dots at 50yd.
Magnified optics at 100yd (or 200 depending on the gun)

This is personal preference but it's consistent.

Maxing out adjustments to get POA at such short distances doesn't seem like a good idea to me.
If you did have reason for a longer shot you might lob it over the target.

Oh gawd yes, there is.  What if you are pressed into using it at a longer distance?  With an 11 yard zero you are gonna be ridiculously high at any distance much beyond that, especially with that sight height.

Not sure of the load you are using, but this is still a good example

Zero @ 50 yards.  You will be a couple inches below LOS @ 11 yards but unless you are trying to shoot a perp in the eye it isn't an issue.  If you are, compensate

11 yard zero?

Do you know how far off that it at 25, 50, 100, and 200 yards?

What is your sight height over bore?  That looks taller than 2.7'ish, but hard to tell.

I get that the longest shot INSIDE your house in 11 yards, but what about outside of your house?

I zero'd my optic (and green laser) at 50 yards using a range finder and bore laser.

No, you are underthinking it. Bullets don't travel in a straight line, depending on zero you'll either hold high or hold low 99% of the time (which is why knowing your gun and practicing with it are soo important). Generally (depending on caliber) I prefer a 100yard zero, that way I always hold high unless my target is exactly 100 yards.

ETA: A picture says 1000 words. This is for 556 but you get the idea.

I see what you are trying to do...have an absolute hold at the max distance inside your home. I am on the side of 25 or 50 yards just for the sake of simplicity and repeatability between all my AR's. Just hold 1-2" high at house distances.

The picture is very valuable, thanks
I think I’ll try a 25yd and go from there

You are missing the point everyone is making on the 50 yard zero, take a closer look at the center picture above.

That sight axis above bore is nasty if you don’t select the right one.

Like any AR in any caliber or barrel length from 8.5" 300 BLK to 5.56 18"with standard cowitness or lower 1/3 optics you should zero at 50 yards and know your hold off up close which will be the same for ALL your AR rifles shooting supersonic ammo, so you don't have to think about it. A 7" pushes it a bit, but so long as you run 110 Barnes TAC-TX you should still be OK

There are two sets of figures to remember.

1y-20y = 2" hold over
20-40y = 1" hold over

This keeps you with under an inch of error.

The more precise drops would be 2.5" inches in the same room and 2" at 10 yards. That will keep you at under a half inch error at any range you would aim.

You will also find from about 38y to 100y you will not be over half an inch from your POA, so outside becomes easy too for your 300 BLK should the need arise.

Using a closer range zero to counter the REQUIREMENT to learn hold offs is a classic newb mistake. Don't make it! Just learn correct hold overs for in close ONCE for ALL rifles and calibers. Learn to shoot at brow lines and collar bones in close.

I would personally zero at 50, then go home and blast away, until you find the hold over your heart desires  Zero at 50 then maybe find an indoor range with the distance you need. I would personally find the sweet spots with supers & subs using a  bdc reticle.  Keep us posted buddy

I zeroed at 50yds and ran out of time debating on whether to go to 100yds
Gives me a good baseline for my used
Thanks guys
