Hi all,

I am thinking about buying this barrel:

https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/barrel-parts/rifle-barrels/300-blackout-medium-profile-barrel-with-tunable-gas-block-prod129072.aspx

And I am thinking about going with a BCM handguard:

https://www.brownells.com/aspx/search/productdetail.aspx?sid=174287&pid=81945

They have a 7" , 8" , and a 9.4" .

Pardon my noobie-ish question.

The last I assembled an AR, it was a rifle and it was back in 2007.

Thanks in advance.

The 9.4" rail should end up at the back edge the barrel threads if that is the look you seek.

I have several ARs in 300 BLK

A 9.5 hand guard is perfect for a 10.5 barrel

Since a visual is always nice, here is what a one inch difference in barrel to rail ends up, this is a 14.5" with a 13-5/8" rail.

Looks good!

My plan is to put a Law Tactical folding stock adapter on it and a Kak shockwave brace:

This is my 9.6 2A Armament rail on a 10.5 upper. I was looking for minimal gap between the end of the rail and the can and happy with the result.

I'd go with that BCM 9.4 if I were you.

That's sharp looking!

I was fully expecting the poop to hit the fan Monday in Virginia, so I had a bunch of parts in my Brownell's shopping cart. Sunday night.  A little over $1,000 worth.

One of the items was that BCM 9.4" handguard.

Then I remember I had a bunch of reloading componets I had ordered through my gun club/range.

So I took everything out of the cart except for that Odin Works barrel (w/ adjustable gas block) and a BCM  bolt carrier group .

Ouch!...

Today is payday...and gotta pay a bunch of bills on the first ...like everybody else....

And I almost forgot.  I have two Harbor Freight roll around tool boxes that I bought on black Friday that I still need to pick up.  I already have the 3rd toolbox at my "reloading shop".  My game plan is to put an 8 foot long slab of real butcher block across all 3 toolboxes.  This will be for my reloading bench.

So between the gun parts and reloading stuff, it'll be an expensive two weeks.

Brownells tracking says my parts will be at my post office on Monday.

I picked up my barrel and the BCM bolt carrier group last week.

.Here is a pic of the  barrel (still inside its packaging):

I will probably be ordering more parts this week.

I haven't ever assembled a complete AR.

The last time I built anything, it was 2007, and it was just a lower.

I bought a stripped Evolution Gun Works upper back then.

I think I might even have an "upper parts kit" still.

Soooo....this will be quite the learning curve for me.

I went with a 10 inch handguard on a 10.5 barrel for minimal gap.

Wow!

Cha ching!

I ended up going with BCM's M-LOK 9 inch hand guard  on this one.

My Sig M400 hybrid has a key mod hand guard, and it seems like locally more parts and doodads are available in M-LOK.

Here's a 9" Aero on a 10.5" BA .300 LASER kinda ruins it, but only one I had - ends where the LASER does - you can see it between the Battery and Diodes. I like that little bit of space.

I watched a few Law Tactical Folding and SBA3 or SBA4  installation videos the other day.

Turns out I was missing an endplate and a castle nut.

I started putting an order together a few days ago at oh dark thirty.  The Brownells website must have been getting clobbered because I could never get to the checkout screen.

Then later that night come to find out they were all out of castle nuts.

Argghh...

I ended up ordering them through Aim Surplus.

Fingers crossed...
