Picking up a new vortex strike eagle 1-6 off euro optic with their military discount I’m getting a good deal. I’m stuck on which mount I want. It’ll be going on a new rifle I’m picking up soon. A iwi Zion 15. Price isn’t a factor. I was going to get a geissle mount but would like a larue qd mount. Any opinions/pics with the mount optic set up would be appreciated.

Perfect. That’s why I thought but wanted to reassure myself as I usually use red dots or other brands mounts
Thank you.

One of the most common errors I see people making when mounting a scope on an AR-15, is not mounting the scope far enough forward for the eye relief of the scope; particularly with LPVOs that can have an eye relief of 3.5" - 4".  So, whatever brand of mount you go with, be sure that it will accommodate the eye relief of your scope.

Consider that my Leupold has more eye relief than many scopes and it is exactly where it needs to be.

You can’t go wrong with any of the major manufacturers. Larue, geissele, badger, nightforce, American Defense, borrow...etc. Even Aero makes a decent spr mount. As stated before, make sure you choose a mount with enough mounting range for eye relief. I had a trijicon accupoint tr21 with the larue lt139 spr-e, and had to mount it like the above picture. My buis had room to flip up without hitting the optic. For an lpvo I’d suggest any spr mount from a reputable manufacturer.

I would probably need to square up with the stock completely open and support hand around the mag well or at the very rear of the handguard.
----------

2" from receiver to front ring might be enough, but I err on the longer side to ease pressure on the erector and have more versatility (still waiting on an MI 2.8"). Be aware of the rear ring's placement as some may be far enough back to be against the magnification ring. I agree with Molon's suggestion of SPR-E.

+1 larue spr-e. Great mount, deigned for the longer eye relief commonly found in lpvo’s.

It does depend on eye relief and the distance between the turrets and power ring.  The standard SPR (LT-104) is enough for me, but my rear ring is close to the power ring.

The only reason I could see going with the SPR-E with such a compact scope is it’s 2005 and you’re shooting nose to charging handle. The LT104 or LT204 are perfect.

The Kahles K16i has 3.74” of eye relief. With the scope mounted like that and the stock adjusted for me it’s perfect for a square fighting stance. Prone it’s a little close but at least the Kahles is pretty forgiving.

For reference, I'm a 6', 250lb fatlard.

Offhand, I use notch 2 and reach to 6" from magwell with about 15* yaw angle from bore line.

What's your Prone support hand location and angle? I pop the stock to notch 5 (A2) or 6 and reach to 7" with about 30*; I might prefer midlength.

Old screenshot, but my position hasn't varied much. My scopes are closer to 3" eye relief and place the ocular between the CH latch recess and Brunton bump.

Newer screenshot, but different camera perspective. TR24 butted forward against a 0.75" cantilever from the receiver to rear of front ring. I'd have gone for the SPR-E, but I like horizontal rings so I'm waiting on an MI 2.8".

I have somewhat short arms for being a 6' dude. I'm usually shooting at 2 clicks out (or the first click out on a Colt buffer tube). In order for that to all work, I end up needing that 3.5-4" eye relief pushed as far forward as possible.

I haven't laid down cash for a good SPR mount yet, but the GG&G I have needs another inch forward for it to work for me, optically.

The spr-e is on my short list here in the next couple months.

I use a LT-204 with my Swampfox Arrowhead 1—10.  I had actually ordered a SPR-E also thinking I needed it for relief with it or other scopes but I returned it.

Agree. Lots of people with the 104/204 really should have a 139. I’ve opined before that I wish they’d bring the advantages of the 204 over to the 139. For an LPVO it’s generally the more appropriate mount.

I meant to add a caveat for the high power guys in the back

I’m also 6’. I run the stock 3 clicks out when standing and fully extended in prone. One thing I don’t do is get down on the  rifle craning my neck forward. I’ll actually be swapping my LT204 for a Badger 1.70” whenever my Brownells back order ships

I'm trying to minimize the caveats.
