MK4: Pic rail just on the last couple inches, keeps the rest of the rail slim enough. I dislike having to install mlock to pic adapters.

The only one I thought was worth a shit was the MK14 and 16, and maybe the MK8.
The early ones were absurdly blocky, heavy, and crude. The newer ones are just blocky and crude. |

Of the ones currently available (which is debatable as fuck), I like the Mk4.
What I’d really like is a Geissele Mk7 in true carbine length that I could use with an FSB. Would prefer to not have a huge gap between the rail & FSB. Then again they’ve stopped making 7” rails so I should just be glad I have what I got. And I say Mk7 because I’d prefer the rail and not MLOK.  Attached File Attached File |

MK14 & 16, but really you won't go wrong with any of the G rails.

I have Mk4, Mk8, and Mk16. On my 14.5” I like the Mk16 the best due to the lighter, slimmer design. On my 10.3” I like the Mk8 because it’s a little more beefy.

I like the early ones. I have a Mk 2 and had a 13" Mk1 that I sold like a dumbass years ago.

I'm voting for the Federal OD green MK4 rail.
People sell them for a shit load of dollars for some reason. |

I have several of the Fed rails in different flavors, I love em. Got on a HRT kick a few years ago and scooped up enough rails for future builds.

Mk4 or mk8 are my favorite. They are the same except mk8 has no pic rail at the end. I have a mk16 also but prefer the mk8 and mk4. Wish they had an 11-11.5" rail.

Those MK1s weighed as much as the heaviest quad rails before you bolted any rail sections to them to actually attach something.

MK8 is great, albeit not particularly slim. If that's the priority, MK13/14/16 are all excellent choices.
From a purely aesthetic perspective, the older rails had that darker, almost red clay shade of DDC that I really like. I would never let form supersede function but to each their own. IMO there are plenty of handguards that match or surpass what G is doing, but their barrel nut is awesome and particularly well thought out. |

The long barrel nut is strong but the two huge bolts and the block of aluminum that they go through, plus the anti-rotation tabs and the screws that push in the opposite direction as the clamp bolts is just

Mk4/8 series. I don’t want a ball sack under my handguard so the Mk14/16 are out.
“Hes a ball-chinian!” I should also add that you can use KAC 3.1 rail panels with the Mk4/8 which is a big plus to me. |
