I understand there are a few interchangeable parts - Which H&K 416 Parts can be used in the BRN-180 (and vice versa)?

I could only see the ejector and extractor are close enough in dimensions to be used.

My question was initiated when I read (somewhere) that the gas piston were interchangeable. This made me wonder if the HK416 used the AR18 as a design base or influence...?
Just looked it up - the AR18 certainly "influenced" many rifles. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ArmaLite_AR-18

Most short-stroke gas piston rifles were influenced by the AR-18. The L-85 is almost literally a bullpup copy of it.

This is where I saw the common parts between the AR18 and BRN-180. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI2ihW6NQRA
Now I want a BRN-180 upper...:)

Common parts does not mean interchangeable parts.

I would say the BRN-180 is "Inspired by" the AR-180.

I wish they would have made parts interchangeable like the 180B was. Unfortunately no parts work except maybe the extractor/ejector and I haven't verified that.

Why is this in the retro forum?

I don't think I've ever seen common parts phrasing used where those parts would not interchange. That would be a poor choice of wording.

To 5 year old kids? Possibly.

Edit: The 416 came out in 2004. I guess that was while ago, but still not retro yet in my opinion.

The G36 is strongly influenced by the AR18, and it wouldn't surprise me if HK reused some G36 components in the 416 design. I haven't examined either in detail, and haven't compared either to AR18 parts, but would be surprised if any are close enough to be interchangeable.

Not sure what's the purpose of comparing BRN-180 vs HK416 parts. Although they are both piston rifles. the heart of the 2 system designs are completely different.

BRN-18 ---> AR18
HK416 ---> AR15

If you want to compare parts comparability for HK416, probably Taiwanese T65 & T91 (Wolf A1) would be more of Apple-to-Apple comparison. Original T65 was produced since 1976. It married M16A1 (upper/lower/bolt/carrier/recoil system) with AR18 piston design. In a way the more recent piston AR are similar to what already been done by Taiwanese military since 1976.
