I haven't been keeping up with AR10 advances.

If you were going to buy an AR 10 today for around the $1000 +/- mark what would you choose?

If I ever planned on carrying it, a small frame like the Savage MSR10 or a DPMS GII with mods.  If it was a range toy, LaRue UU or Aero.

Probably look hard at a LaRue in either case.  Hell of a lot of bang/buck there.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess maybe things have not changed so much in the AR10 world.
I currently have an FAL, M14 (M1A) and HK 91. I have put all of them through considerable torture testing and consider these heavy use Battle Rifles. I would trust my life to any of the three.

Have any of you run the heck out of your Larue, AP, etc or seen any videos that have done so? Would you consider them in the same class as the above rifles or something else?
All of my .308 rifles are meant to be heavy use, reliable and dependable. I don't want an AR10 unless it performs similarly.

Thanks Again.

AP is your answer at 1k or lower plus you will get exactly the parts you want.

putting the uu kit up here just shows homerism or lack of reading as op said 1k!

Under $2k...Larue UU kit.

$2k-$2.4k...LMT MWS all the way. I have 16” and 20” .308 barrels, and a 20” 6.5 CM barrel. Would have cost me a whole lot more to have that flexibility if I built several uppers. Battle tested by the Kiwi’s and Brits.

Talk about lack of reading.

If you are on a tight budget like that...I'd probably stick to Aero or S&W MP10...but I think at the end you will probably spend a bit more than $1000.

My 2 cents may not be the info you are looking for.... BUT... I will add, my PSA's are significantly more accurate then ( and hold that accuracy when dirty ) my M21... I can shot many hundreds of rounds out of my more precise PSA's , then without cleaning, fire a danged good group with match ammo.
Even if I just clean the bore... precision from a AR can amazing after hundreds of rounds.

I cannot say that about the various other 308 battle rifles.

Like the original poster, I am a bit behind the curve on AR-308's but Aero and PSA seem to be way to go.
Of course PSA are sold out of the model I want (20" fixed stock)... but what accuracy will PSA barrels give? Who makes their barrels?
Can you give us an idea of the accuracy we might expect with m80 ball surplus, white box or whatever you've gotten the best groups with. And match 168gr-175gr handloads or whatever you've shot. Thanks.

Thanks for all the great feedback and recommendations. I said $1K +/- so I am OK with adding some funds for the right build. I am going to look at the PSA and AP.
I previously had an M&P10 that would shoot shotgun patterns. I know this is unusual based on others feedback, but mine sucked.
