This will probably get me laughed at, but anyone know of a reliable site I can get a stripped lower for about $70-$75?

I see a few here and there, but not certain if they're trustworthy.

Don't mind waiting a couple weeks, just want to get one on order.

Friendly reminder:
I would transfer my lowers as pistols, I can remake them as a rifle. I can not legally, remake a rifle lower to a pistol.

A stripped AR-15 Receiver is neither a "rifle" nor "pistol" on the 4473.

When you build it, it certainly wouldn't hurt to build it as a "Pistol w/ Brace" and assemble it with a Pistol Upper & Photograph it built as a "Pistol" to establish it was FIRST built as a Pistol, then leaving you free to rifle it later if you wanted.

^^^^^^^this is how it should be done, worst case as pistol, giving the FNG a headsup on what to watch for when his FFL is doing the transfer. YMMV

PSA. $99 w/ free shipping in stock

https://palmettostatearmory.com/ar-15/lowers/stripped-lowers.html

If you want to splurge a little ($130 plus shipping) these look like a good option, but I haven't tried one

https://www.primaryarms.com/17-design-billet-ar15-stripped-lower-receiver-black_2

Otherwise watch the websites mentioned. Primary arms and Brownells seem to get various things in consistently. I bought an Anderson closed trigger guard lower from PA this week for $50 plus shipping. They were out of stock in less than an hour.

Primary arms or ar15discount.
I've noticed primary arms will have sales on anderson lowers when they get them.
And I just picked up an Anderson Elite stripped lower from ar15discount for $75 shipped. Gotta be fast though cause when they become available, they're sold out within an hour

You called it.

The odds were only 90% when the thread opened.  It went down briefly to 85%, before someone hit the jackpot.

You don't really need an arm brace to make it a pistol first. Even if you're ultimately building a rifle, all you really need to do is assemble everything as usual BUT add the shoulder stock last. Without the shoulder stock installed, you physically have made a pistol. As long 'as you're intent was to build a pistol first' and you add the shoulder stock last, you legally made a pistol before a rifle.
Unless you are filming yourself building a pistol or rifle, there's no way for anyone to actually prove what a stripped lower was originally made into..... but doing what I described above would legally build a pistol first.

Why would one want to remake a pistol into a rifle or vice versa? Why not just have multiple lower receivers, why limit yourself?

This is, of course, the correct answer.  But, many people have bought one or the other and changed their mind.  If on a limited budget, a change-over might seem prudent but usually after some discussion of the costs and hassle the plans change.  Once I nut a barrel onto an upper, it is there to stay.
