I’ve been shooting Troy Battlesights damn near as long as I’ve been shooting AR’s. The first time I had a chance to examine a set when they were a new product they immediately seemed to me to be built like a tank. I really dig the fact that they have no springs, small pins or clips to break, shear, or generally break off. Over the years I’ve had occasion to smash battlesights by Troy into corners, drop them directly to the concrete mounted to different rifles, and several other accidental destructive behavior and I’ve never broken one. I’m sure someone has but I’m don’t personally know any of them. What are your favorite BUIS? Why? I’m starting to get interest in the Magpul Pros. If you have them, are they built pretty strong? How do they compare and contrast with Troy’s?

KAC micros. Light weight. Small profile. Well proven.
I would like to try some of the Era-Tac back up irons sometime. |
Rra fixed rear. Low profile hex head screws sold me on it. Troy flip ups
I honestly have never in my many many many years used them other than to make sure I know how still so I have not got a favorite. I did like KAC's when I had them. Currently have mbus and troys's and like both.

The troy buis are built better (stronger) than the magpul pros . I sold the set of magpuls i had and bought another set of troys.

I have several different BUISs, but the past few years, I have bought more MAGPUL MBUS PROs and Midwest Industries Combat Rifle Sights sets that any other. Last year, I also bought a aset of Imperial 5.56 sights form LMT. I like these too, but they are a little on the pricey side. Troy Battlesights are good to go and affordable, especially when you can find them on sale. The KAC are always good to have, but they are very pricey. MAGPUL MBUS sights are my "go to" budget BUISs.

PRI rail mounted front with an A2 post
KAC 200-600 micro PRI as close to an true HK ghost ring easy close quarter sight by itself. KAC easy adjustments |
Troy’s are great, can’t go wrong with those.
I mostly run KAC, solid, easy to deploy and adjust/rezero. I might be an outlier but I find the rear Magpul pro to be harder to deploy. It’s very narrow and flat. Just my .02. |
I went from Magpul Mbus, to Magpul Pro's to KAC Micro's. The Mbus were ok for short range. The pros I couldn't get zeroed for the life of me, perhaps I got a lemon. I settled for KAC Micro's and I'm very satisfied

I'm rather partial to a KAC 99051 front and 300m large knob rear... simple, tough, and nicely low profile.

Troy, because always. I wanted a set of the Bobro Lowriders for a theme build I did, but couldn’t locate them.

A.R.M.S #41 folding fsb with A.R.M.S #40 folding rear sight, classic and rugged.
Scalarworks for fixed backup irons, KAC micros for folding backup irons. Both are tough as hell and extremely accurate.
KAC micro. I like it because it takes up the least room on the back of the upper, allowing better placement (for eye relief) of my preferred ACOG / Browe magnification, of 4X.
I’m running a set of Troys on my mid-length and MBUS Pro’s on my pistol and find both work well for me so either set is GTG.

KAC and new Geissele ones View Quote Kac micro's are top of the pile though |
I use Troy. I am running an offset Delta Point Pro with a PEQ on most recent builds so no more BUIS

Another vote for the Magpul MBUS Pro sights. Built like a tank, very compact and out of the way when folded. My preference is for the Long Range Rear Adjustable sight. The distance calibration on the adj. wheel is pretty damn accurate with 55-64 grain ammo. Accurate and repeatable enough for my purposes. Just don't need anything more expensive or robust than the Pro sights.

KAC micros like many, just what I'm used to and they're excellent.
Magpul Pros, hands down.
They seem to be some of the lowest-profile BUIS on the market, particularly the front sight. Made of metal, which I like, and an easily adjustable aperture. And you can get an offset version if you want. Honestly feel like anything else you're either underselling yourself or paying for a name. |
KAC, Magpul PRO, and Spikes...cuz they small
I have many old Troys, and some Diamondheads and they are just fine, work great. Just seem a bit fat and bulky since the micros came out. |
Bobro Lowrider BUIS are the lowest profile I'm aware of.
I personally love the LMT folders. |

I'm dirt broke so I like inexpensive but not cheap.
I like the UTG "fixed" (ie, not folding) "slim" rear and front. Rear - midway # 1020609787 Front - depends on if your front rail is on the same plane as your rear part (ie, on a forearm rail level with top of upper receiver rail or on gas block) rail - midway 102060969 can't find GB height. Midway is the last vendor I found last week when I ordered another set that had both front and rear in stock. Very good clicks, repeatable, attach well, feel solid. No BS good sights. |

Spike micro sights. Low, light, both small and large aperture.

Depends on the application. If it's a short range light build (maybe a 300blk SBR or something) I just use the polymer magpuls. If it's longer range stuff I liked the Daniel defense fixed front and Magpul pro LR rear.
A.R.M.S. very low profile.
The 40L rear also works very well with an A2 style FSB as well and their rock solid. I like the KAC too. |
I have a number of weapons with the Troy/Larue labeled BUIS and a few with the Magpul ones...
Those are my pref, they seem like they hold up well and I trust them. I use what I know and haven't seen anything else that made me think I need to try them over what I have and know... JMHO, YMMV... |
Troy Battlesights are good, I have owned them in the past. Sold them and switched to all Midwest Industries Combat sights. Both the folding and the fixed MI Combat sights are outstanding and durable.
Magpul MBUS. Cheap and tough. I dropped a rifle right on the rear sight in the upright position--right on a concrete floor. It put a tiny ding in the aperture piece and didn't even change zero.

Depending on your rail (if it has cutouts between pic slots), griffin m2 &/or spikes for weight and profile
Didn’t we just do like three of these? Same as the last ones I guess, KAC 200-600m.

Magpul Pros!
I absolutely hate the SIG BUIS they are now selling. |
