I’m trying to figure out at what velocity they stop fragmenting. I know arfcom has done some reduced velocity testing, but I’ve also heard it fragments as low as 1,600 fps. Is there any solid data behind that claim?

I ran into this video the other day.  M855A1 fragmented at 2436 FPS and the reviewer thinks it may still fragment at lower velocities.

Nothing frags at 1600 FPS.

M80A1 (the 7.62 EPR projectile similar to M855A1) frags instantly at 1743fps zone. 1600fps seems plausible:

5.56 M855A1 instantly frags at 1988fps zone; it's clearly capable of fragging at lower velocities.

The Army's New Ammo Is a Long Distance Devastator - M855A1 Gel Test

I generally assume it frags to 1700fps based on these tests.

Testing by combat surgeon Col. Martin L. Fackler, MD (USA Medical Corps, retired), determined that M193 and M855 bullets need to strike flesh at 2,700 feet per second in order to reliably fragment. Between 2,500 fps and 2,700 fps, the bullet may or may not fragment and below 2,500 fps, no significant fragmentation is likely to occur.

Edit sorry, I didn't notice the A1 during the first read.

Where can I buy A1?
