Cleaning up my brass today and came across this one.

No misfires, no odd sounds, no jams. What happened to the round on the right?

That's what I was thinking, a reloading mishap of some sort.

Are you sure it came from your gun?
Because I don't think it did...

Yeah I'm not sure what happened, but it didn't happen in the gun, no way that thing is going to fit in the chamber like that. Don't see any damage on the lip to show where it would have impacted anything either to cause that.

Looks like a round that had the shoulder crushed in from the seating die being turned down too far.

Got cold.

Seriously though, I'd blame a die maybe?

I'm the only one shooting on my property and I do not reload. I was sure I'd get a bunch of "here's what happened" answers. Puzzling.

I've had this happen from a trying to move a seated projectile down a slight bit deeper after a crimp had been applied

Any chance the empty case got crushed after being fired?  Caught standing up in the crack of a sidewalk then stepped on or run over with something?

No chance it happened before it went in a chamber, or while it was in there.

For sure. It neither fed into, nor ejected out of, your rifle in that shape. It's just not possible.

With that info, this is strange.  Perhaps it got stepped on or run over.  If it's just you, no reloading, and clearly wasn't in the chamber that way..... Weird.

Even if run over, it's strange that it crushed so straight and uniformly.
