I’m considering 3 new in-stock rifles as my first AR and would like input:

Noveske Gen 1 16” lightweight Recon: $2000
Pros: Barrel made when John Noveske was alive

Noveske Gen 3 18” SPR: $2300
Pros: Fit and finish is perfect and it feels better in my hands than any AR I’ve held.

Colt 6940 Monolithic: $1350
Pros: Reasonably priced and has a monolithic upper.

Obviously you have budget for a premium AR.   You've already answered your question.

A couple of places recently had some LMT MARS-L 16" MLR rifles (MRPMLK16-MARS):

It would give you a longer monolithic upper vs. the colt and full ambi lower. It would also give you the ability to buy and easily swap barrels for different lengths, or materials.

I have an old Colt SP-1 and liked it so much I got a newer model. They're basic, solid, reliable guns.

I have a soft spot for the 6940 series but definitely nothing wrong with DD.

What kind of shooting for the next 50 years?

Long range?

CQB?

Plinking?

Home defense?

Help us help you.

Get the 6940. If you're going to shoot the next 50 years, you will acquire more guns. The Colt will show the limits of a solid basic rifle, and inform your future purchases.

^^^^^That's some of the most well reasoned advice I've ever heard on this forum.

Were it me, I might split the price and grab two.  A pistol length, 10.5-12.5”, and a longer SPR/hunting/LD rig and set them up totally different.

But, in your case, I’d get the one that feels best AND afford and that seems to be the Noveske SPR.  The feels “best” or right part is what inspires confidence, and confidence equals hits.

I have a 16 inch 6920, but if I could do it all over again, I'd get this.

ETA - https://glocksforsale.online/product/m4a1-socom/

More than one place has them in stock.

I like the colt 6940 but I'd grab a socom for similar pricing.

Out of your choices Recon lightweight.

Im just not a fan of the 6940. I don’t like the the hand guard, barrel and folding front sight setup.

I like the SPR. If you have a special purpose for it.

The Recon LW will fill the roll of a general use carbine well.

Like others have said. This is more of a which to get first because if you plan on shooting for the next 50 years you’re going to acquire more ARs.

Sounds like you’ll need a dozen or so extra barrels and lots of money for ammo.

This is the tech forum dude.  Give more information about your experience, and it's intended use.  Otherwise, this thread doesn't belong here, as it will not induce a worth while discussion.

Running and gunning or shooting from a bench

Of the 3 you mentioned, I'd go with this:
Noveske Gen 1 16” lightweight Recon: $2000
Pros: Barrel made when John Noveske was alive

John's attention to detail was awesome and as you get older, a lighter gun might be preferable to you.

I am a fan of monolithic uppers, but the 6940 feel clunky to me and they've just never spoken to me.  I have been shooting my MRPs for years and I'd be hard pressed to unload any of them from the collection.

Another added benefit of picking the Noveske Gen 1 is that if you decide to run a silencer, you'll almost certainly have perfectly concentric threads to install a mount to.

If he shoots it as often as he says he will and for as long as he says he will it is all moot honestly. The barrel will be shot out, upgrades will take place, preferences will be refined, etc.

Pick the cheapest one and just shoot. And upgrade as those wants and needs come to light.

I shot out my 300 BLK barrel in less than five years. So I assume shooting as much as OP plans to that he will end up shooting it out in probably the same timeframe.

All 3 are cool, I would suggest the light weight recon, you’ll add more stuff and it will get heavier. The 6940 is very cool but I believe most of those were made when colt had the larger trigger pins so getting a new trigger would be a pain. I love my 3gun rifle with the SPR barrel and it’s super accurate and soft shooting. If you live out west or plan on shooting out to distance a lot the SPR is the choice but I think the recon is a great choice.

Noveske Gen 3 18” SPR: $2300
Pros: Fit and finish is perfect and it feels better in my hands than any AR I’ve held.

The Colt 6940 never came with larger .169 trigger pins, by the time Colt released the 6940 they already switched to standard.154 trigger pins.
I have 2 from 2009 with standard trigger pins.

^^^this.

And, the Colt will hold it's value when you part with it
for your next rifle.

Sounds like you we’re drawn to particular rifle. I would go with what appealed to you most and not worry about anyone else’s preference.

Do you have an AR already? What's your use?

For general use I wouldn't go over 16 inch. Especially if it's your only AR. All those options will function great. Noveske will have some nicer finish and look a little nicer.

If I was in the market for a general use factory gun I'd probably get a Daniel Defense. Local store has one and the new mlok ris looks sweet.
