Don't know, and in fact on some Receiver extensions, you have to face the the front of the tube to get it to just kiss the back of the buffer retaining pin for the perfect tube index instead.
Take the case of the below photo, and the end of the tube is slightly too long for the correct index/buffer retainer, and in order to thread the tube one more thread in the lower receiver and just kiss the back of the pin surface, bottom edge of the tube needs to be set back a smidge.
So with the U slot tubes, if the front of the tube is just a smidge too long, it still allow the tube to be index correctly to the inside of the lower receiver tube ring face at correct length index without having to face the bottom end of the tube, and the sides of the U slot will protrude a touch more forward of the back surface of the buffer retainer pin isntead.
The only glitch to this, is when you are trying to get that extra wind forward of the tube in the receiver for no reason, and the top of the tube breaks the inside line of the threaded socket isntead.
