Why are people so high on them? The price is outstanding but are they that much better than say Stag, Aero, Colt etc.

They do the job, do it well, and do it at a good price.  What more do you need?

There's been talk around here that they actually make the BCG for a lot of other brands. So the Stag BCG you referenced OP may actually be a toolcraft

It's my understanding that Toolcraft was the supplier for bcgs for some of the better known manufacturers.

I got a black nitride from Toms Tactical for $67 a few weeks ago. Should have bought a few at that price.

I picked up one of their Nickel Boron 308 AR bcg's and it is first quality all the way. It has held up to about 700 rounds so far with no problem at all. Hopefully it will stay that way for years to come.

Any upper I buy that doesn't already come with a BCG get's a tool craft. I like them a lot.

Their nitride finish is about the slickest, smoothest, and easiest to wipe clean I have yet to see.

Nice BCG's. I got the black nitride with a 9310 bolt for 67 a few weeks ago.

If only I could find a toolcraft nitride carrier with a 9310 bolt at this time for under 70 bucks

Damn you....

What is this SBN finish all about? Its something new?

No. Not really new. Its a surface hardening treatment not a plating.
A lot of barrels are also offering this finish as it leaves a very hard smooth finish.
It leaves a slick shiny finish rather than a duller finish such as phosphate.
Black Nitride goes by a few names, Ferritic Nitrocarburizing, Melonite, SBN "salt bath nitriding", QCP and Tenifer, that are all names for the same thing, the only difference would be Tenifer, this process is used in Europe with a different cyanide formulation bath "EPA wont allow that in the US".

Thanks for the good info.

I really wish I could order a bunch of these but I cant afford it right now. I just hope I will see the $70 price tag on these again in the near future.

I can't find any markings on the Toolcraft BCG.  How do you know what's what?  How do they know they made it if you send it back under warranty?

Toolcraft BCG are probably the best you can own for the money. I don't believe there are too many companies that roll their own; they get them from a company like Toolcraft.

While they may not be better than the BCGs that you mentioned they for sure are no worse and cost a whole lot less.

I think the C158 phosphate TCs I bought for $67 recently are possibly the best deal ever seen on a BCG.

ah yes. the ones from Right to Bear... I bought 2 of them and then they shot up to $80.... I really wish I had grabbed a few more. If I ever see them hit that low again (probably BEFORE the elections this year) I'll grab 4 more of them just to stock up. $80 ain't bad, but that $67.95 price was crazy

When did Toolcraft start manufacturing BCGs?  Last I checked it only manufactured bolt carriers.

They don't. They add a bolt to it from whoever they source from and then sell at retailer.

Better? Subjective, at best.

9310 is ~8% stronger than C158...IF the heat treating is performed correctly.

If it's not is it less strong?

IMO as long as you['re buying from a reputable dealer and reputable mfger, it doesn't matter. Toolfcraft are known GTG quantities, and the differences between 9310 and C 158 is miniscule... just grab one and go
