Something like this Gun Sock would be awesome.

Sorry, it's a 16" barrel. The upper is 23.5" overall length. I'm researching the M240 barrel bag but so far it looks larger than I'd want. Might be a really tight squeeze in my carry bag. I just remembered that my neighbor is a seamstress and has her own business making stuffed animals and other creative related things.
I bet she could make me the perfect gun sock! Now to figure out what type of material would be suitable. It needs to be breathable so as to not trap moisture. But also heat resistant. Actually, her prices are kind of expensive.
She must be making $$$ on those teddy bears.
