Does anyone know how to tell how many lumens a particular X300 has? I have this guy wanting to sell me one but he doesn't have the box. Is there anyway to be sure what lumens it has?

I believe ones that say ultra are 600 lumens unless they say 1000 lumens on the bezel.  So at least the 1000 lumen ones say.  Pre ultra I think they were 200 lumens and there might have been a 500 lumen before the 600 but my memory on those is hazy.

If it’s a X300 Ultra it can be 500, 600, or 1,000 lumens. If the unit doesn’t specify the lumens and has a serial number starting with “A” it is 500 or 600 lumens. If the serial number starts with a “B” it is 1,000 lumens.

Nice hotspot with good throw and decent spill? Probably the 600 lumen model.

No real discernable hot spot or throw with mostly broad flood? Probably the new 1000 lumen model.

I don't think you could even accidentally buy the older 500 lumen model anymore.

Assuming you don't want to go serial number hunting.

Just pull the serial number and call surefire

Not always the case. Someone posted that theirs started with a B and was told it should be the rail clamp -B version when it was not.

I guess it depends on how much?

If it's cheap, like under $200, I'd buy it no matter what model as long as it's an Ultra. I have the original 500 lumen X300 Ultra and it still holds its own against the 1000 lumen TLR-1HL and X300 Ultra. Not quite as much throw but it's perfect for pistols as it has excellent spill and enough throw for clear PID at 50+ yards in an urban environment.

I just ordered a X300U-B from Midway and it says in the description 1,000 lumens. Of course being on sale at $199.00 I didn't really care if it were 600 or 1,000.

Purchased from a reputable retailer, so hopefully it should say so on the packaging and laser etched on the bezel.
