Love this thread and it should be a sticky.
I get pretty much the same results across the board as these when I chrono, except for the 64G Gold Dots for some reason. Don't know if I just have a hotter lot than Eagle or what, but I get ~150fps more out of the 64g GDs than he does with both my 14.5" and 11.5" rifles using the same suppressor as Eagle. I even tried it with 2 different Chronographs. |

Also wondering, has anyone done something similar for 300blk or 308? |

Thanks @cj3waker.
I'll note that these tests weren't done in a lab. They were done in real world conditions with MY firearms on multiple days. As such, results will vary a little bit for other people. I did control for everything I could reasonably control for and conducted all four days of testing as identically as possible. |

So I had a 16" faxon chopped down to 12.5 and and threaded all the way back to the gas block, it shoots like a dream, and is very quiet.
I tested 4 loads today in 11.5", 12.5", and 18" and was pretty disappointed in velocity increase between my 11.5 and 12.5 Ammo used was a 55gr reload pretty similar to most 223 55gr loads, Wolf gold, M193, and a mild 75gr hornady load ~5000ft, 45 degrees 11.5" faxon midlength suppressed 12.5" faxon midlength suppressed 18" larue midlength suppressed Load ---------- 11.5" ----- 12.5" ----- 18" 55gr reload -- 2579 ----- 2598 ----- 2912 Wolf Gold ---- 2690 ----- 2723 ----- 3002 M193 --------- 2935 ----- 3024 ------ 3286 75gr reload -- 2467 ----- 2517 ------ 2710 |

Might be that true 5.56 pressure ammo sees more bump from 11.5-12.5 than .223 does. |

Thank you Eagle_19er for this in depth time consuming $ eating report . I accidentally came across your post on a google search of what I can’t even remember. I read the entire thread and subscribed just because of all this information. So again thank you. I’ve got 500 of the Speer GD 75 grain to load and I’ve got another 500 of the Hornady 75 Grn BTHP. Two curious questions , on the 1st page you have a few ballistic tables out for the 77 gr OTM and the 62 Grn . Just curious if you had a ballistics table for the 75 grn GD , 2nd is what would the 75 Grn BTHP Hornady be closest cousin to simulating ballistic wise . Thank all for any information . I’ve reloaded and cast for handgun for 35 yrs . I built my 1st AR 3 yrs ago and got addicted to the build puzzles / Adult Legos . Anyway I’ve been collecting parts for a 10.5” build and may switch to 12.5” after this article . Great info and look forward to reading more on this site .

I have some extra rounds of M855A1, the 2011 loading that was hot and used bismuth. I have been looking for SBR info on M855A1 EPR used in barrels 10.5"-12.5", with and without suppressors.
I couldn't punch through level 3 steel with the 10.5" barrel, really damn close but not quite. TCB, on YouTube, was able to punch through a LVL 3 plate with an 11.5" suppressed. I tried 10.5" suppressed and had no luck. Now I'm rocking an 11.75" and think I may have a shot but would be much happier if I could make it part of a comprehensive M855A1 EPR evaluation/analysis out of SBR's. As expensive as it may be, it's what's in my HD mag. I've searched high and low and haven't been able to find SBR/M855A1 information that I trust. I'd be happy to take the project lead or follow someone else's lead. This information being released to the public is long overdue. |

Is the Hornady Black the SBR load? If so, do you have any subjective impressions (some significant 8-9bd claims were made) on the sound of the horandy black vs others? |

View Quote Neither of the Hornady Black loads in this series of tests were the SBR load. IIRC, I had a hard time finding a couple boxes for a reasonable price around that time frame. Sidenote: I'm floored that this thread is still getting comments! To those that want a sticky, how do we make that happen? Between running after a toddler, trying to keep a business afloat, fixing up and selling two houses and moving my family across half the country (MN to MT) a couple months ago, I haven't had much time to think about an encore. If ammo availability and prices get better I'll try to put something together in the next year or two. I'm unfortunately not going to hold my breath on that though. |
