In 5.56...short barrel sources?

My first thought is to use the KAK 4.75" but I'm wondering what else is out there under 7-7.5".

I searched briefly for a barrel under 7.5" about a year ago and didn't find much from what I remember. I went with the KAK VALUE LINE 5.56 4.75" barrel and Im very happy with it and recommend it.  Its affordable, runs great, and a blast to shoot! Literally!
Im now going to do a 7.62x39 with there 4.75" barrel!  Heres a pic if it works!   Good luck!

SLR Rifleworks offers a 5" barrel, in 5.56 and 300BO.

I just purchased a V Seven 6.5" stainless barrel assy, in 300BO.

I have the KAK 4.75 incj uppers in 556 and 762x39, 762 is a little more accurate and not as loud, both run great. Have a 4.75 inch 9x39 on order. I have a 6.5 inch and 8 inch already. I like the 9x39 better than the others, except mags are a problem. I think the 9x39 is a really great round for 200 yds and closer, except for the mags available now.

Kak, veritas tactical, slr come to mind. I know special ops tactical makes a 5.9" 556 barrel, but it has an angled gas port

That being said 556 rifles that short suck to shoot. If you want something that short go 300blk.

Ballistic advantage makes a 6 inch barrel in 300BO and it uses a regular gas block and pistol gas tube.

I want an obscenely short 5.56 barrel as well for a ridiculous AR build. The shortest that I can find, even looking at the companies already mentioned, is 7.5”.

If you’re familiar with The Gun Collective YT channel, Jon did a video on the stupidest AR that he has. It had more colors than a bag of skittles or a pride parade flag. That’s what I want to build. Is it practical for anything?  No, not unless you count burning a bad guys hair off at close range, but it’s fun.

Those are all .300 Blackout barrels and I’m looking for a 5.56 barrel. I appreciate the links but that’s the wrong caliber for what I want.

Another option is shortening a 7.5" barrel an inch or so. My gunsmith charges $100, for this service.

I believe that the Olympic Arms OA93 pistol and the JARD J23 pistol are both still available (may need to special order) and have 5.56 barrels of about 7 1/2 in. length.  They both feature the absence of a buffer tube.

MHO, YMMV, etc.

What I never understood with builds like that (forget the 5.56 part) is the use barrel to rail ratio to flash can ratio.  What is the point of a 4.5" barrel with a 7" rail when the overall length of the weapon is still about 7.3 inches.

I dumped my regular length flash cans for mini KAK cans, which are the same length as an A2 (adds about 1.1") as opposed to the normal length cans which add something like 2.8 inches of length.

I have a 9" barrel with a 9.5" rail and a mini KAK can, and an 8.5" barrel with a 9" rail and a mini KAK can.  (That 8.5" is getting swapped for an 8.3" tomorrow).  Maximize your rail space and barrel length.

So now I’m thinking I may build this one into a short 9mm...

I dunno...
