What is everyone’s thoughts on the Streamlight RM1 and RM2?

The design is like the in force lights.
I have a streamlight pro tac 2 625 lumen that I really like, and am thinking about trying out the RM2 500 lumen for my 10.5 pistol, and maybe even my mossy shockwave

I really like streamlight products. How are the RM ergos and mounting?
I most likely will not use a tape switch.

Thanks

Cloud defensive rein is better especially for a shockwave. Think of then as properly built RM1 or 2s. The batteryjack alone is awesome.

Not quite what you specifically asked about, but it concerns the RM's: have you taken into account the very dismal candela they throw? Even the higher wattage RM2 with it's 1,000 lumen is only 10,000 candela. I guess if you only ever plan to be using this indoors it's a moot point, but if there's chance that you may want to take it outdoors where there isn't any walls to splash light off of, you may want to consider that.

I’ve replaced my Inforce WMLs with RM2s, very similar ergos but in a much brighter and more reliable light. I don’t use them with the tape switch, but rather on a 45-degree mount on the left side of the hand guard. The RM2 (2 cell) is is 1000 lumens, the RM1 (1 cell) is 500 lumens.

All of my ARs have either the RM2 or HL-X.

Same here. I prefer the RM2 on my shorter barrel CQBish type rifles since it has more spill and less candela than the HL-X.  My longer range rifles have HL-X with pressure switch.

Are you guys using the tape switch?
How do you like the feel if not using the tape switch for activating the light?

The ergos of the RM2 without the tape switch are excellent as long as you have it mounted in a location that makes sense. Very similar to the Infore WML if you’re familiar with it. I use mine with a Haley Strategic Thorntail2 offset mount, and it works very well for me.

Looks great.
I think I am going to try out the RM-1 500 lumens...
I have a need for my AR pistol and shockwave, so plan on trying it out on both. It looks very promising for a shotgun if your mount it on the left (inside for a right hand shooter) so your hand on the forend looks like your thumb could easily activate the switch on the back.
I like the smaller size for the AR pistol too...
Now just need to find a good deal on one it seems.

Should help with the decision FWIW:

Streamlight TLR RM1 & TLR RM2 Rail Mounted Lights

I love 'em. I have an RM1 on my SBR and an RM2 on my 16" carbine. The ergos of the switch button activation are great for me. I don't use the tape switch.

I don't worry about candella specs and all that. The Lord said, "Let there be light," and there was light in otherwise dark spaces. Binary.

I guess I'm just behind the times in the terminology ever since the new rail mount lights came out compared to the old rail mounts

Just got my rm2 in the mail from primary Arms. Has anyone had issues with the tail switch plug just falling out. It literally takes no force for the rubber plug to fall out. Wondering if maybe I got a faulty one? Any input would be appreciated

I love the light but that plug is a POS. I have two lights and the plugs fall out just by looking at them. They are useless as an environmental seal. That's engineering at its dumbest.

I just got my RM2 a few days ago.  I like the wider throw and the profile of it, and am still messing around with where to mount it and whether or not to use the switch, which feels a bit flimsy.

If you mount the light on a rail with a slot under the tailswitch, the slot will hold the plug in place pretty firmly.  Of course, it just falls out when the light is removed, and will likely get lost in no time.

I've read in other threads that Streamlight will send a tighter fitting plug if you complain, but don't know if that's still current.

I've also read that Streamlight claims the water resistance isn't compromised by leaving the plug out, but don't have that first hand.  It seems like getting crud in there would be bad, though.

It would be helpful if posters would provide a more complete ID as to which Streamlight Rail Mount thingee they are talking about.

Streamlight makes multiple Rail Mounts with the 1 or 2 moniker.  To wit:

Thanks....

Having just bought one and worked through all that naming stuff after a bunch of web searches:

Many people shorten the Protac Rail Mount series names to RM1 and RM2 because it's quicker to type, except for the HL-X.  This is no longer a good idea since they've added the RM 1 and RM 2, also called RM1 and RM2 (no spaces).  There will be confusion over this for years in web searches.

RM1 and RM2 should be reserved for the low profile lights.

Here are the official names.
Standard form factor lights:
- Protac Rail Mount 1
- Protac Rail Mount 2
- Protac Rail Mount HL-X
- Protac Rail Mount HL-X Laser

Low profile lights:
- TLR RM 1
- TLR RM 1 Laser
- TLR RM 2
- TLR RM 2 Laser

ETA: Here's what the rubber plug fit is like on a rail.  It's pretty sturdy, though a solid sideways hit between the rail and light could dislodge it, I suppose.

And here are the plugs Streamlight sends if you ask them, according to posters in this archived thread (no poster IDs that I see for photo credit):

Why not just compromise:

For the Protacs:

PRM1
PRM2

For the Low Profiles:

TRM1
TRM2

That would be good.....

My applications do not have any rail under the plug for support. I may have to resort to a little silicone goo to hold mine in.

I have the TLR RM2 mounted on my Springfield Saint. I use the included tapeswitch. Mount wise I use a combination of a Magpul mlok cantilever mount and Haley Strategic thorntail mount as to push the light forward and even with the FSB.

Light is good quality, I've been a fan of Streamlight for years. The jack plug/seal doesn't work for ****, just falls out. Using the tapeswitch this quirk doesn't bother me too much. Loved the light when I first got it, but after putting my TLR1 HL on my other AR and comparing the two I've become less impressed. Don't get me wrong, works great indoors for HD, but personally I'd like a bit more candela. I'm in no rush to replace it but I've been keeping my eye out for a decent deal to replace.
