Picked up a box full of these years ago but they have a strange cut and it doesn't match the profile of a standard lower. The machining on the top looks very purposeful. Any ideas what or why?Attachment Attached File

I would bet this or they were “repurposed.”

Is there a possibility they were clearanced for a selector block?

Years ago at small arms firing school, the M16’s we were issued for the day had sheetmetal brackets sandwiches between the receiver and pistol grip to prevent selecting “auto”

I've seen those at Perry. They use a standard grip, just have that sheet metal sandwiched.

Possibly someone's hacked-up attempt at making a replacement AR18 grip, as the area above the grip on those is angled as well.

You got a box full because they are rejects. Just like all the Cooper M-16 magazines from the 80's.

Almost looks like it could fit a Daewoo K1/K2.

It makes sense that someone might have converted M16A1 pistol grips for a cheap "plus 1 US part" after the great 922r foreign parts scare.

I'm thinking that they were to be used as vertical grips, like on the ZM LR300.

That could have been the demil process for them to be sold as surplus. Remember the M16A1 handguards where they crushed the heat shield to "demil" them?

Those would be great for making XM177E2 vert grips like they did in Vietnam. You don't have to feel bad about cutting on a good grip.
