Can anybody help a brother out who is imprisoned in the draconian state of NY with some pre-ban mags?
I picked up a Sig 556 recently. My first rifle of this type. |

Obvious Answer: They have a different number of rounds in them? Is there not 800 rounds there? Just curious. Left side means an odd number of rounds, right side means an even number. A lot of people leave the mag one round short of full so it's easier to seat on a closed bolt. |

I don't consider myself a mag "whore" but I do consider my basement that housed them a mag "bordello".
I finally got most of my magazines out of their boxes they've been in for years and put into ammo cans, these cans are my put away for a rainy day mags/clips/drums/belts as my range and SHTF ammo cans are separate from this count. My rainy day mags are now housed in: .30 (4) .50 (14) .50 Tall (23) .50 Fat (4) 20mm (7) MG-42 (6) I still have another 5 or so cans yet to fill but the hard part is now over finally. I'll be taking 2/3 of my mags and putting them at two other locations that way I don't have all my eggs in one basket like I've done with my firearms and ammo. I don't have a digital camera so there are no pics but others have been to my house in the past and seen all the mags, maybe I could have a buddy stop by with his camera and take a pic for future addition to this thread before they get dispersed later today. Luckily I purchased a lot of ammo cans back when they were much cheaper and could be found everywhere. |

Does anyone use a ratio of number of mags / rounds of ammo? I was wondering how many rounds through a magazine would be the usefull life, so to speak, as well. When you start out with another platform llike me, you don't want to have 10,000 rounds of ammo and 1 magazine for example. As you are building your "stash" and practice mags how many for practice? How much do you put into ammo stash vs ammo for practice? Thanks.

Just get what you can afford then what you cant or dont want to load into magazines put the rest of the ammo on stripper clips. You can buy them online. I have sets of 50 - 100 with 1 - 2 chargers listed in the EE ammunition section. I love stripper clips and a striplula. So easy to slam 10 at a time in a mag. I reload, so I just stick them on stripper clips and store them in a ammo can or in bandos... I have about 30 mags usgi and pmags and reload up to 2-3k at a time. take care |

Whatever floats your little boat, I"m really not concerned with the fact that I called a magazine a clip.

The danger is not Barack Obama but those who elected him. It will be easier to undo the follies of Obama than to restore good judgment to the masses. We can survive Obama, who is merely a fool. We are less likely to survive the fools who support him.

While there have been posts about the StripLULA versus USGI, versus PMags, and versus Lancers, I don't see any notable or significant difference in operation or functionality with using the StripLULA on a USGI, PMag, or Lancer. Seems to me its more personal technique and how handy the operator is with the StripLULA (than the brand/type of mag) that's the determining factor. Sorry no pics brotherzoo. I wouldn't say I am a mag whore, I just have sufficient for my needs.
30 - 30rd Magpuls 40 - 30 Rd GI (Center, Colt, Labelle) 10 - 20 rd Magpul 10 - 20 rd GI 5 - HK maritime 5 - D&H curved 20 rd 10 - 20 rd 308 Magpul 20 - BDM .22 mags 50 - Glock Mags for G19,23,35 20 - Browning Buckmark Mags My main reason for having them is because I hate to reload them at the range. 116 thirty-rd USGI mags stamped Okay, Colt, or NHMTG with Okay's CAGE code, all with MagPul followers.
94 twenty-rd USGI mags, a mix of Colt, Adventureline, and Simmons Industries manufacture. Two thirty-rd USGI FN mags that I somehow obtained and can't recall how, with MagPul followers installed. No plastic mags of any kind. The USGI 30s with MagPul followers have been 100% stone cold reliable for me after 1000s of rounds of cumulative shots fired in four ARs. That includes MagPul followers of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations. NOT. ONE. FAILURE. The USGI 20s are nice for benchrest work, and they are intrinsically reliable. Works for me, YMMV. Noah |
