Burris XTR 1-4, the black spec in the upper area appeared and after ~30 more rounds of .458 SOCOM it has not moved. It does not hinder the use of the scope but it is kinda annoying. I have contacted Burris and have what I need to send it in for repair but should I? If they are able to fix it(I'm guessing it's an easy fix) what's the odds that I would encounter problems with it in the future B/C it had to be "opened up"? Or anything else to consider by sending it in.

Beat it flat before you send it in. New scope.

One problem that can happen is the speck will disappear during shipping to Burris. They may look at it and determine that nothing is wrong and send it back to you, only to have the speck re-appear at some point in time. I would ask for a replacement if it was me.

I would definitely send it in if I didn't need it for the next couple months.

They'll take care of you. A Burris Droptine on a CZ455 took a tumble and some internal debris like that popped around the reticle.
They unsealed & cleaned it, re-purged it and sent it back - good as new. |

Send it back. No scope should have that with so few rounds.

Not Bad.
Just got an email that they have repaired it and the return shipping info on it. Hopefully early next week it will be back in my hands. |

View Quote From my last experiences with Burris (they handle Steiner repairs), I got a replaced scope back and it broke in the same way again. Then they replaced it again. Then I sold the replacement. YMMV, but I'd start looking at a better optic for going on a 458. |
