Will a SUPER short barrel work correctly for a cmmg bolt conversion? I'm thinking like 2 inches, or whatever the length of chamber is, plus a twist of rifling and some threads

Sounds like a 4.5" dedicated 22lr barrel might be what you are needing.

As I answered in your other thread, the 4.5" barrels work fine. I haven't had any issues other than when using a bolt weight and standard velocity ammo. And that is a known issue with such short barrels. It functions 100% with standard velocity with the bolt weight removed and with the bolt installed while using high velocity ammo.

A buddy of mine did a ruger 22/45 where the threads are just past the receiver. I'd say it's 2" at best. It's not 100 reliable but it sure looks sexy with the can on it! That being said I'm not sure if that translates over to AR barrels but I would think 3.5-4" would be about a short as I'd go.

Is this shooting with high velocity stuff like mini-mags?

CCI SV primarily but not 100% reliable with that. It's more reliable with bulk pack but again not 100% I'll see if I can dig up a photo it's pretty silly

I had mine shortened to 3" and threaded.
It has that 45 "feel" while being compact.
