   The old method of having to add a rail: an extra 1/4 inch

Make sure to measure the space between the holes on your pressure pad (Protac) to ensure it matches the mount.
Apparently there are pads that don’t align. Not a problem with the TLR. |

I've had good luck just overboring the screw holes at the ends of the switches with a drill bit and using a magpul mlok hardware accessory kit to mount the pad directly to the mlok slots on the rail. The kit referenced by the OP probably gives you a bit more options on positioning with the holes being closer together though.

Got another one. They made it custom, because my pressure pad was out of spec. Good dudes….
