I have the handguard, the CAR15 stock and some other A2 components that are asking to be built.  I also have a fixed carry ahndle upper.  Would it be terribly historically-inaccurate to build something like this on that fixed carry handle upper?

Thanks

No and who cares, you're not trying to clone something specific, besides I've seen some random things put together in arms rooms. Build it if you want to.

Itd be similar to the blood diamond/bhd rifle. I think thats called an xm177.

Depends on which carry handle upper you use

Blood Diamond/BHD rifle is the Model 727.  I think those are typically an A2 upper and what we today would call an "M4" barrel profile.  There's a long thread in the A2 subforum about BHD-style rifles.  https://www.ar15.com/forums/AR-15/going-for-a-1993-Somalia-car15-build-and-need-your-help/127-449652/

The XM177 is the Vietnam-era A1 carbine with the "moderator" on the front.

As far as doing a SOPMOD/727 crossover, you could always invent a backstory that it was an old 727, or even one of the semi-mythical XM-4's, that somebody had upgraded with the rail as a testbed or something.    I think I've said here before, my philosophy is, "if you think it's cool, do it."

Correct. They were using late model 723s and 727s. Both of these had the M4 profile barrels (M203 cuts).
