Sequestered for the Shanghai Shivers gave me time to assemble this.  Feel free to speculate why this 1970’s toy has this configuration.

The toy is built by Playco in Torrance CA.  When asked to produce it, you'd need to model it off something.  Armalite was just down the road.

I dunno, Mike is probably right.  Probably to dodge entanglement with Colt.

I just find it interesting the details they put into it.  Specifically the front sight block, handguard, and charging handle.

They probably copied the AR10 to avoid being sued by Colt for an unlicensed toy version of the AR15.

I would agree. (I could have bought one of those toys a few ago.)

But he did a nice job!

That is freaking cool. I've been really tempted at the sale price of that receiver set and handguards.

Thanks for the kind words everybody.

I had a lot of the parts with the idea to do something like this.  It was my intention to paint the furniture, as I have have a "proto-ish" rifle that still needs painting.  But, when I saw the toy in an antique shop; the plan came together.

I can't say for sure that the RRA entry stock will stay on it.  LOP is just too short, but that is the intended design.

Now I just have to find the time to go and shoot it.

if pulling the charging handle all the way back locks it, . . . and pulling the trigger makes a red "flash" oscillate out the flash hider as the charging handle wiggles forward,....I had one
