Anyone else here like a rifle stock on a carbine length or SBR rifle? I kind of do. Every collapsible stock I have generally stays in the fully extended position so whats the difference? I have a Magpul MOE Rifle and a VLTOR club foot rifle stock on 2 of my builds. Dumb?

Gas system length and recoil system type are independant of one another.

Not dumb, and it works.  I don't care for the A2 length, but have had a couple carbines with A1 stocks before.  My Cav-Arms are A1 length too.

CavArms stocks (A1 length) with an A2 buttplate installed works great with irons or a red dot.

Depending on your state's laws you probably won't be able to carry a fixed stock model under a CPL permit. OAL" must be under 26" (SBR) to qualify as a pistol.

I prefer fixed A1 stocks with iron sights or red dot equipped rifles. The just work.

The biggest advantage of a collapsable stock is getting in and out of vehicle or moving around in confined spaces.  If these are not requirements or appeal to you a fixed stock has some real advantages in that you can use a rifle extension and buffer, the sproing noise if more pronounced on a rifle buffer so you can hear the rifle operating, the LOP is longer, and the rifle buffer extension shoot smoother.  I like both I have both rifle and car setups.  A rifle I plan to use in and around a car or home will have a car stock though.  Just like some of us like 20 round mags for vehicle rifles some like rifle stocks nothing wrong with having options!

This was an A2 stock, but I shortened it to A1 length.

Here is a Cav C1 stock with A2 butt plate.

A1 stock with a 14.5" SOCOM bbl. Very handy.

Also the above lower with an XM-177 style upper.

There's even some historical precedent for such a combo.

If it works it works!  I do not have a stance one way or another on collapsable vs fixed both are great.  I do like shorter fixed if I want to go fixed especially for in and out of car/truck or moving inside confined spaces(house or blind).  Collapsable has distinct advantage when it comes to vehicle, wearing armor, and confined space.  Fixed has really good check weld, solid feel, the sproing sound seems more evident(I see as positive), and for prone shooting I like a fixed.

Best part about the AR15 is the options and accessories!

I have a few times, A2 stock with a 14.5" upper. I like the way the guns handle, but the ability to collapse a stock for storage or wearing layered clothing has always brought me back to a collapsible stock. I keep meaning to try one of the more modern, A1 length stocks and never get around to it.

This discussion is about stock selection for a rifle.  What does it have to do with a concealed pistol license?

big fan of rifle length stocks on carbines and not just for the look.  I like the handling as well

my favorite kiss rifle is a A2 stock/upper with a 16" dissipator using a DCM free float and A2 handguards. handles like a dream and the extended sight radius is noticeable.

I don't but I always thought this was a cool setup. This is from Shawn Ryan's Instagram, bottom right guy.

My favorite carbine is a 14.5" pinned BA with A2 stock. It has mid gas and is probably the smoothest shooting gun I have.
Added bonus is very little gas in the face when shooting suppressed. I suspect that has more to do with the gas than recoil syatem.

I ran an A2 stock on my 16" Noveske N4 for a long time. I liked it better than the other offerings at the time.

If you don't square up to the target and/or don't wear armor then it's fine.

Square up for me is a1 length.  I don’t do body armor, so no need for adjustability.  Both my collapsible and fixed stocks are set at a1 length, so they all feel the same.

I won’t build a collapsible stock anymore.  The vltor a5 system with a collapsible stock is just more expensive than a rifle buffer system, and doesn’t benefit me at all.  And a1 length fixed stocks are solid and robust.  Love them.

The only “rifle” stock I have is one of the Cav Arms polymer one-piece lowers with my 18” SPR upper on it.

I like it, and may get more if they update and improve the design a bit.

And yes, it works great with any length upper I would want for it.

Personal preference, lately I have been using carbine stocks.
