Picked up the Q Sugar Weasel just before Christmas and tried it out today. This is my 1st plunge into 300BO. I tried to stay away from a new caliber but after today I'm wondering why I waiting so long. A hearing safe heavy bullet twacking steel at 100 yards was a joy
Attachment Attached File

I was attracted to this pistol due to the weight, short barrel, and fast twist rate. Seemed just right for suppressed subs.
The Sugar Weasel had 2 features that I preferred over the Honey badger; The price, and the multi-position brace/stock.
I tend to like a shorter LOP and the Honey Badger only has 2 positions, collapsed and 'long'. Why Q would not offer a multi-position brace on the HB is beyond me.

170 flawless rounds today through this multi-colored pew pew. Mostly Magtech and 20 S&B 200gr rounds. Using their Plan B mount with the SiCo Omega the Sugar Weasel is quiet and smooth. Mostly hear the clicky-clack of the action cycling. Ejection was just right at the 4 o'clock position. The Plan B mount makes easy work of removal of the suppressor if needed, nicely done Q.

Rapid fire from a bench made easy work of steel at 100 yards (see video below). Off hand using a sling for extra support, this short light weight pistol was semi-easy to make hits with just a Trijicon MRO for this out-of-shape 'operator'.

I had already swapped out the safety for an ambi 45 degree safety which I prefer. The grip, whatever it is, is comfortable.  Only other gripes are the trigger and the sticky adjustable brace. Will add a Larue MBT soon to fix the some-what heavy trigger but probably cant do much with the brace. It takes a considerable amount fo force to adjust it, as if the buffer tube is too big for the brace. Maybe it will break in with more use. Maybe add a bit of oil?

Would like to try the SiCo Omega 9K for an even lighter/shorter package but am having a hard time parting with another buck fifty for a 2nd Plan B mount. Maybe someday.

I will be adding the Q clear anodized ambi charging handle once it's available again. A law folder wouldn't be so bad either
Ordered a case of ammo and look forward to the cheap Wolf subs that should be coming.

Very happy with this purchase so far!

Nice. Q is making some good stuff. I actually shot the Honey badger today. That gun desperately needs a suppressor, it was obnoxious with that cherry bomb.

Went to clean it today and found an odd gold colored grit throughout the BCG & upper.
Not sure what it was, didn't see any scrapes in the anodizing.

I was surprised at how dirty this was after 170 rounds.

I built a sugar weASEL clone.  The gun gets stupid dirty suppressed. I wish I saved the money on the cerakote color scheme.  Black looks cleaner.  I throw the most of the gun in a ultrasonic after every range session.

Still shoots exceptionally well. Soft recoil and quiet.
The $10 ebay special sling failed today. Using it as a brace, both QD points came out of the sockets while firing
WIll swap in am American made sling for the next trip.

Like the sugar weasel. The gold crap fills my 9mm AR all the time. I thought it was the filth from Winchester white box ammo. Other than rimfire, never saw a gun get dirty so fast. Must be a combo of short barrel, and suppressor blowback.

What lube are you running?

Ever think of putting a SB Law Tactical folder on it?

I really want the Honey Badger but for ~$1100 less I can get a Sugar Weasel and add a folder and conceal this very light rig in a small backpack. And then I could use that extra money on a Thunder Chicken or Trash Panda....decisions.. decisions..

I would love a folder but at this time I do not have need for ultimate compactness.
The cost of the folder buys be 400'ish round of ammo.

For anyone who has a SW, do you find moving the brace on the tube takes a fair amount of force to slide?

@duneshoot

My brace is pretty tight on the tube, but I think it’s good, no rattle or wobble.

Do you notice any machining abnormalities on your lower? Mine has some small raised ‘bubbles’ on a few areas, the FCG pocket/buffer tube hole are slightly off-center causing some overhang of the upper on one side and there’s some slop between the upper/lower.

None of this affects function, I was just kind of surprised to see that on a $1500 gun. Especially since the rest of the gun is flawless in the machining/finish.

I ran about 200 rounds through mine this weekend and I love the way it handles and shoots. So light and the recoil is lower than any AR I’ve owned. I’m planning on swapping to a 12” handguard to make mine a Sugar Weasel SD.

Are you saying the upper sits to one side on the lower?

The finish on mine looked fine.

I took mine out this past weekend. Used Colt 20 round metal mags. Twice the 1st round out of the mag fed and fired fine but the 2nd round the bolt stayed locked back. Not really sure what happened.

Ever so slightly, still the coolest AR I’ve owned and you truly have to handle it to appreciate it.

I ended up just buying 300blk PMAGs for this one but I’ve used Colt 20s with a previous blackout and didn’t have any issues, strange.

That's just an awesome looking gun.

I don't see the value in the extra cost. Even the cost of the Weasel was up there unless you ask Kevin

Personally I don’t like proprietary parts, Honey Badger looks cooler but from a user-serviceable and long term perspective I think the Sugar Weasel is a better bet

Looks like my buffer tube is off center too, weird!! Left/bolt release side measures .1275, right side measures .2035.
trigger appears centered.

Will email Q and see what they say.
Pistol still shoots excellent so it doesn't really matter but yeah, $1500 and Mr. B's bragging about quality seems odd to see this.

Depending on your intended use. If you plan to use it for HD you probably want the shorter trash panda

If it's mostly a range toy, definitely go with the thunder chicken.

If you plan to run it hard or have another gun that you run hard and want maximal suppression then get the Nomad L

Same, I simply asked if it was normal and they sent a shipping label no questions asked said they’d swap it out.

Based on every picture I’ve seen I’m guessing it was a bad batch because every other one looks perfect.

Very sexy.

I'd recommend adding the JP or Armaspec captured spring buffer system.  Talk about quiet!

Just be aware if you add the Law Tactical folder, the buffer extension they sell doesn't work with a captured spring.  You'll have to get a hollow extension from Anarchy Outdoors.

Is the Law Tactical folder plug and play if you aren’t changing the spring or adding the buffer extension?

Does the JP and Armaspec spring work with the Law Tactical folder or do you need other components?

Got the Sugar Weasel.

FDE Law Tactical folder will be delivered tomorrow.

FDE EOTech EXPS3-0 will be delivered tomorrow.

Q Thunder Chicken will be delivered in 8 to X+ months.

Mine will look almost exactly like this (think that EOTech is a EXPS2 or different model):

Did everyone’s Sugar Weasel come with the slightly distressed looking black/dark dust cover?

I’ve seen some Sugar Weasels online that have a matching clear anodized dust cover.

Mine came with a standard metal one, the colored one appears to be a Strike Industries polymer model, ~$12 or so IIRC (I plan to swap mine out).
