I just purchased a PSA 20" CHF 1:7 A2 RIFLE LENGTH 5.56 NATO PREMIUM AR-15 UPPER ASSEMBLY - NO BCG/CH
PSA 20” CHF 1/7 A2 rifle upper

The front sight base is phosphated on the sides and has the cast marks  ground off on the front and rear. The front and rear of the FSB is blued, in contrast to the phosphated sides.

Anyone else seeing this?

PSA has offered to send me a new FSB, the absurdity of that offer is obvious.
The white spots on the sight are glare reflected off the polished surface.

Yeah, there was another thread about it a few weeks ago.

Josiah from PSA,  responded that the forge flashing was being ground off due to customer complaints.

Poorly done and not phosphated afterwards.

No argument from me.

We had a lot of customers who are new to the AR15 platform complaining about the seam on the forged FSB's. They felt like it was a defect in the part.  We decided to clean up the part and remove the forged seam in the manufacturing process to alleviate those complaints.

Thank you,

Josiah

Freakin gun newbz ruined FSBs because they don’t know what forge flashing is. (Or casting samendifference)

Yep. It’s stupid and the end result looks like crap, as OP observed.

If you don't like it, just take them up on the offer to replace it with a unground one.  Simple, this hardly seems worth a post other than those look like sh!t ground like that.

Strange how PSA's business model of cutting corners to undercut quality manufacturers doesn't preclude extra work that makes the product worse

I had the same issue with a PSA dissipator upper I just received.  I gave a two star review on that item.

Mine was a pinned FSB just like yours, however I was able to change to a phosphate FSB with some machine work.  If you don't know what you're doing you can mess up the switch big time.

Since I have already drilled and reamed the taper holes there was no way to send my upper back.

Between the ridiculous looking FSB and the large gouge on my barrel near the flash hider, I am not happy.  I also tried to change to Magpul MOE rifle length handguards and that was impossible. The distance between the delta ring and handguard cap was to narrow.  The list goes on!

I should have sent it back, at $209.00 I thought I would practice my machining.

I've dealt with PSA for many years and this really surprised me, it's embarrassing.

I understand that I mean they can both leave a  bur/seam/flashing. I’m fairly sure the FSBs are forged.

Thats weird - I recently received a mid-length PSA upper and the front sight has the forging marks.

Not sure why anyone would complain about them.

I was wondering whether I just got lucky here or this is the new norm. PSA’s offer to send a replacement FSB to me was stupid. You can’t just swap out FSB. It does look wrong. I’ve been buying from PSA for many years and was just surprised. I thought it might be supply chain issues, like everything else and this their new norm, which apparently it is.

The grounding on the front portion of the FSB goes all the way from the top to the bottom..

Means that PSA either removed  & reinstalled the FSB or the job was done before the FSB was mated to the barrel…
Are PSA barrels parkerized under the FSB?

I've had a few PSA barrels now, all parked under FSB.

I'm fairly certain that the seam removal was pre installation. And surely we will be seeing more.

Sure sounds as if it was before install.

I just received my PSA complete upper and immediately noticed the same thing. Don't like it at all but not sure if it's worth returning or swapping out the front sight post. Every time I look at the gun it will bug me though.

It's a tool, tools are not required to look pretty.
I would equate this with Glock changing over to the drop free mags, I like my early mags as they won't drop out of the gun with around ten or more rounds left.

You really think so?

Personally, I do not care for it. It's a slight improvement over the prior attempt....but still not something that I'd want.

Leave the flashing, stop attempting to reinvent the wheel.....
