Just finished this build yesterday. I like it so far although it is a bit heavier than I was shooting for. May build another lower with a MFT minimalist and replace the Seekins handguard with a MCMR or other lightweight handguard. The Seekins would go great on my 20" JP bipod/bench AR with that flat bottom. The new build shoots great so far so no complaints.

Just finished my budget build today and sighted it in. Very happy with it. Ended up somewhere around $400 total. Weighs in at 7.4lbs which isn't too bad with a heavy barrel.

The tan camo on the left I built for a 3 gun intro course that I was super excited about, but had to back out due to work. Standard upper and lower, Hyperfire EDT trigger, with I believe an FN bolt and Green Mountain 16" fluted carbine barrel, and ALG handguard. Had it running perfectly with a standard carrier and Vltor A5 receiver extension and buffer. It was jumping around a bit, so I've since swapped in an adjustable gas block, AIM low mass carrier, standard receiver extension, and a carbine buffer with no weights. Looking forward to getting it tuned and up and running again.

The green camo on the right I set out to build as my idea of a jack-of-all-trades rifle. Spikes lower with an unknown NiB coated upper receiver, Core15 NiB BCG, BCM 16" midlength barrel reprofiled by ADCO, ALG handguard and ACT trigger, and Vltor A5 receiver extension and buffer. Optics are an Aimpoint and LaRue Po Boy Special magnifier. I have not actually fired this rifle as is, but did loan it to a fellow student at a carbine course when his rifle failed, and this one ran without a single problem with whatever junk ammo he was using.

This is a dedicated .22 built on Mag Tactical matching upper and lower receivers. Taccom ULW 16" barrel and a Daniel Defense handguard. Stock is an old Nordic Components wire stock. Trigger is an ALG ACT. Interestingly, a lot of these parts have now been discontinued. It is super lightweight and fun to shoot.

Last but not least is my 10.5" SBR. Aero precision barrel, Core15 NiB BCG, ALG keymod handguard, and Vltor A5 receiver extension and buffer with Phase 5 UMS stock. Optic is a Mepro Tru-Dot RDS. This gun runs great, except the parts kit trigger is garbage, and I'd like to replace the rear sight at some point so that I can fit a magnifier behind the optic. Originally this build had an FDE theme going on, but now the rail covers are the only FDE things left.

The shorty makes the sproing sound when coupled with an A5 buffer system.

Top:
BCM Upper, BCG, BFH 14.5" middy LW and Gunfighter Mod4B
KAC URX3.1 13.5"
Dead Air Break
Noveske N4 Gen3 Chainsaw lower
Geissele SSA
Noveske 60 degree Ambi selector
VLTOR A5 Buffer
LMT SOPMOD
Placeholder A1 grip

Bottom:
??? Upper receiver
Faxon 11.5" Gunner Midlength
KAC URX2 10.75"
Palmetto BCG
BCM Ginfighter Mod4
Aero Precision Pew lower
Geissele SSA
KAK Ind. Super Sig tube
SB SBM4
BCM Gunfighter Mod3 grip

They both have changed a little in the last month but I dont have any newer pics.

The shorty has been run on an A5 and even though it has a long gas system for a short barrel runs tula like a champ suppressed and unsuppressed with the A5H2

My Dad and I both bought the classic PSA M4 kits in OD that were $299 with the intention of doing "budget builds". Yeah, we all know how well that works, right?

Attachment Attached File

PSA M4 upper, PSA LPK, stripped Spike's no-logo lower, ready to build.

At this point Dad and I went out to a local show we usually attend, and a seller had some Magpul parts in OD. We both bought replacement stocks and handgrips.
Attachment Attached File

Assembled. Now has a Magpul K2+ grip and SL-S stock.

Well, I couldn't leave well enough alone, so I grabbed a Vortex SPARC AR online and a Troy drop-in rail from the LGS.

80% lower
RRA 24" fluted varmint barrel
Fortis handguard 16"
Warne 20 moa scope mounts
EOTech 3.5x18 FFP scope w/illumination
Atlas bipod with cant and swivel
Rest is pretty much standard stuff. Nickel boron bolt which is my first and really cool.

Many parts sand blasted and Cerakoted Magpul FDE. Had to machine out the barrel nut from Fortis to fit over the bull barrel. Did a really good trigger job on PSA lower parts.

Rifle weight with mag but dry is 13.50 lbs.

Shot it the first time today. Got it on paper at 50 yds. Then zeroed it the best we could on a rock 400 yds out (very scientific). Then took a bunch of shots at 1100 yds with Barnes 85 grain 5.56 precision match grade ammo. Performed very well! Looking forward to a more precise zero, and shooting 1000 yds on a hill that isn't covered in grass to see the hits better. Very happy with the rifle, and the scope/glass is awesome! Maybe a touch low on power compared to the longer range guys, but I thought it was appropriate for a AR15. Will probably re-zero it at 300 yds. Lots of practice doing long range shooting ahead before moving up to a more premium larger caliber rifle (like my buddies desert tech pictured).

Build took about 6 months of researching and a few late nights of painting, but very happy with the results, and there is nothing like it you can buy at the store.

Build thread....interesting.  I guess I can contribute.

Mk18 clone, my first attempt to build a clone and a collosal pain in the ass trying to source parts virtually impossible to get in Canada.

Started off life as an LE6920 lower from one rifle, and a 6920 upper from another rifle, 10.3" barrel from a Stag N1, and bits and pieces from all over the place:

CQD sling plate - unobtanium in Canada

PRI Gasbuster - hard to find in Canada

A1 grip - hard to find in Canada

LMT SOPMOD gen 1

RIS, not RAS

The can is fake because Canada.
Link Posted: 7/30/2018 2:21:21 AM EDT
[#41]
Second clone was the Block II which started off as an Elcan Spectre DR:

I eventually started collecting bits and pieces here and there:

Previously enjoyed DD Mk18 upper.

I already had a hard time finding the rear plate, the front sling mount was even harder to find.

With the KAC M4QD flash hider

Fake can, with the fake wear on the painted upper (previous owner).  Then the clone Gods smiled upon me with this:

I hear they're not that common in the states too.

Anyway, I got a Surefire training can (because real ones are prohib in Canada), some fresh paint on the upper and lower and decide to shoot the hell out of the thing to get natural wear going:

More or less how it looks now.
Link Posted: 7/30/2018 2:41:04 AM EDT
[Last Edit: Mister_Donut] [#42]
Not sure if anyone's interested in clone building, but I started a Mk18 one here:

http://www.gunownersofcanada.ca/showthread.php?49697-Mk18-Clone-thread

Anyway, my Mk12 clone started off as a 20" Colt HBAR with PWS parts slapped around it:

I stripped the PWS parts off and sold it off with a Colt 16" barrel, kept the 20" HBAR for my Mk12 build as the barrel was a fantastic shooter, then started collecting parts:

I know, most of these parts were all sorts of wrong for a Mk12 clone, but I didn't know any better at the time.

Thank God Brownells ships to Canada, though because of ITAR, it's still a huge pain in the dick to get stuff from the states.

It looked like this for a while:

Then my OCD started to take over and I started collecting more parts:

Believe it or not, these are hard to find here.

An A1 lower (though it's a Norinco product)

Filthy communist markings filled in and painted over.

Still looked off though, with the 20" barrel...

So I dug out another spare 20" HBAR I had in the spare parts bin and had it chopped to the right length:

I took my beloved Colt 20" HBAR and threw some A4 stuff around:

Yeah, that M4gery below it is another "build", slapped together with Armalite and Colt Canada parts.

Anyway, my Mk12 clone was back in pieces and needed to be put back together again.

Would love to have a US-made A1 lower, but I don't even know where to begin to look.

With the fake can (because Canada)

Most recent build:

https://www.ar15.com/forums/ar-15/BCL-102-Stripped-Receiver-build/121-728681/

Stripped receiver set from BCL:

It's kind of a mutt with a mix of Armalite AR-10 and DMPS AR-308 characteristics.  My first foray into building something other than AR-15.

Build this one in 6.5cm

At this point, I didn't even know if it would kaboom in my face when I squeezed the trigger for the first time (turned out that it would only be plagued with FTE and failure to cycle properly...still working that out).

Still a work in progress and still collecting parts for a certain look I'm after:

I think I've figured out the gremlins (Midwayusa NiB BCG doesn't seem to extract when attempting to cycle rounds through, but I tried a DPMS BCG and it seemed to eject them fine), but won't know for sure until I find some time to get to the range.
