The tan camo on the left I built for a 3 gun intro course that I was super excited about, but had to back out due to work. Standard upper and lower, Hyperfire EDT trigger, with I believe an FN bolt and Green Mountain 16" fluted carbine barrel, and ALG handguard. Had it running perfectly with a standard carrier and Vltor A5 receiver extension and buffer. It was jumping around a bit, so I've since swapped in an adjustable gas block, AIM low mass carrier, standard receiver extension, and a carbine buffer with no weights. Looking forward to getting it tuned and up and running again.
The green camo on the right I set out to build as my idea of a jack-of-all-trades rifle. Spikes lower with an unknown NiB coated upper receiver, Core15 NiB BCG, BCM 16" midlength barrel reprofiled by ADCO, ALG handguard and ACT trigger, and Vltor A5 receiver extension and buffer. Optics are an Aimpoint and LaRue Po Boy Special magnifier. I have not actually fired this rifle as is, but did loan it to a fellow student at a carbine course when his rifle failed, and this one ran without a single problem with whatever junk ammo he was using. Attached File . . . This is a dedicated .22 built on Mag Tactical matching upper and lower receivers. Taccom ULW 16" barrel and a Daniel Defense handguard. Stock is an old Nordic Components wire stock. Trigger is an ALG ACT. Interestingly, a lot of these parts have now been discontinued. It is super lightweight and fun to shoot. Attached File . . . Last but not least is my 10.5" SBR. Aero precision barrel, Core15 NiB BCG, ALG keymod handguard, and Vltor A5 receiver extension and buffer with Phase 5 UMS stock. Optic is a Mepro Tru-Dot RDS. This gun runs great, except the parts kit trigger is garbage, and I'd like to replace the rear sight at some point so that I can fit a magnifier behind the optic. Originally this build had an FDE theme going on, but now the rail covers are the only FDE things left. Attached File |

My Dad and I both bought the classic PSA M4 kits in OD that were $299 with the intention of doing "budget builds". Yeah, we all know how well that works, right?
Attached File PSA M4 upper, PSA LPK, stripped Spike's no-logo lower, ready to build. At this point Dad and I went out to a local show we usually attend, and a seller had some Magpul parts in OD. We both bought replacement stocks and handgrips. Attached File Assembled. Now has a Magpul K2+ grip and SL-S stock. Well, I couldn't leave well enough alone, so I grabbed a Vortex SPARC AR online and a Troy drop-in rail from the LGS. Attached File Waiting on some rail covers and a Magpul RVG now... |

Nickel boron bolt which is my first and really cool. Many parts sand blasted and Cerakoted Magpul FDE. Had to machine out the barrel nut from Fortis to fit over the bull barrel. Did a really good trigger job on PSA lower parts. Rifle weight with mag but dry is 13.50 lbs. Shot it the first time today. Got it on paper at 50 yds. Then zeroed it the best we could on a rock 400 yds out (very scientific). Then took a bunch of shots at 1100 yds with Barnes 85 grain 5.56 precision match grade ammo. Performed very well! Looking forward to a more precise zero, and shooting 1000 yds on a hill that isn't covered in grass to see the hits better. Very happy with the rifle, and the scope/glass is awesome! Maybe a touch low on power compared to the longer range guys, but I thought it was appropriate for a AR15. Will probably re-zero it at 300 yds. Lots of practice doing long range shooting ahead before moving up to a more premium larger caliber rifle (like my buddies desert tech pictured). Build took about 6 months of researching and a few late nights of painting, but very happy with the results, and there is nothing like it you can buy at the store. |

Most recent build:
https://www.ar15.com/forums/ar-15/BCL-102-Stripped-Receiver-build/121-728681/ Stripped receiver set from BCL: It's kind of a mutt with a mix of Armalite AR-10 and DMPS AR-308 characteristics. My first foray into building something other than AR-15. Build this one in 6.5cm At this point, I didn't even know if it would kaboom in my face when I squeezed the trigger for the first time (turned out that it would only be plagued with FTE and failure to cycle properly...still working that out). Still a work in progress and still collecting parts for a certain look I'm after: I think I've figured out the gremlins (Midwayusa NiB BCG doesn't seem to extract when attempting to cycle rounds through, but I tried a DPMS BCG and it seemed to eject them fine), but won't know for sure until I find some time to get to the range. |
