A friend of mine has 1000 rounds of PMC Ammo he wants to sell for $280.  I have only shot Hornady, American Eagle XM193, and Winchester Whitebox 5.56mm 55grain ammo through my ARs.  Is PMC a good quality ammo?

It's fine, it used to be the ammo that I stocked most of. I only switched brands to something more readily available.

Its good enough to buy for cheap. Don't expect great accuracy if its x-tac

It's 0.28 cents per round. That's a little under the average price for such a round so yes, it might be a good deal. Can't get too much ammo.

Their 5.56 x-TAC has always done well for me in competitions. Their 9mm 115gr FMJ  rounds are accurate, but don't quite meet 125 power factor out of a 4 inch barrel.

I wouldn't pay that. Tell him $250.

I have been told by a couple people that it is South Korean Manufactured and is quite corrosive.  I have also heard this about Independence Ammo also!

No it's not corrosive.

I have been shooting the PMC X-TAC 62 grain ammo for some years now with excellent results.

I've shot some and it's comparable in quality and accuracy to the brands you mentioned (except for "Hornsby", I'm not familiar with that one).  Don't expect match-grade performance from it, or even Norma standard ammo quality, but it's reliable and reasonably accurate.

Shoots fine for me.

$250 or less

The brass is hit or miss with PMC. Off center flash holes are not unusual with that crap.

As a reloader I would pass on anything PMC. Bent enough decap pins with that stuff to know better...

I have shot a lot of PMC over the years and never had any problems with it, I use their 9mm and .45 ACP as well as their .223.  I have also reloaded it and turned some of the brass into .300 blk with no problems as well.

I would not pay $280 for it, but would come up with an offer for a lower price.

I meant Hornady in my original inquiry.  My iPad auto correct turned it to Hornsby!

PMC Bronze?
The PMC Bronze I have is several years old but it is very accurate, like 1/2 MOA accurate. I love the stuff and purchased a bunch of it years ago. I use it specifically with my precision AR.
Unless something has changed in the last few years, I consider it very good ammunition. Never had any issues using it and it is one of, if not the most, precise factory ammo I have tried through my precision AR.

PMC is fine. Their 55 grain FMJ Bronze is a little slower and a little more accurate than most 55 grain FMJ. The 62 grain XTAC is significantly more accurate than other M855 loads for me. $.28 per round is fine for PMC. No reason not  to offer $250 though.

Have never had an issue with X-TAC.

X-TAC is arguably my favorite bulk ammo. Accuracy for me is excellent from my 8.5" up through my 20".

Surpised to see you guys had such good accuracy with XTAC M855. I didn't but to be fair it was a BCM barrel, and like 6 years ago.

Buy it.
Stack it.
Shoot it.

I have shot thru a few hundred of my PMC bronze and as others have said, it's a little slower than my m193 stuff but more accurate. Good stuff imo.

It’s decent enough for plinking and goes bang every time.

Unless your friend is selling because he is hard up for cash and you want to help I would try to haggle the price down closer to $250, as you can probably get that or better ammo for close to 28cpr.

The 223 will work, but very under powered

Gotcha.  Wish I could say I've never done the same thing but it would be a lie ;)  Autocorrect is a good/bad thing sometimes.

PMC Bronze...works okay.  Not my favorite.  Low powered and smells like urine.  Indoors it can be profound with a face full of gas and low ventilaton.  I call it "Pee"MC.

That's not a great deal with ammo prices where they are.  I agree with several above; $250 would be a good deal.
