A comparison pic:

Geissele Mk 5 in DDC
Primary Arms light in FDE
RGuns Sand upper
Colt FDE buffer tube
Magpul STR in FDE

The plan is to rebarrel the black upper with that sand one and get the lower refinished in a semi-matching color.  Next up will be a Geissele DDC charging handle and, eventually, and FDE optic in an FDE mount.  I'm going for a 50 Shades of FDE rifle.  Any suggestions as to which color and/or refinisher to go with for the lower?

Do any of you know who re-anodized uppers? I have an FN FDE upper that is looking pretty blotchy and I'd like to have it re-anno'd. I'd go with a Geissele upper, but their DDC is a lot browner than FN's greenish tan.

I expected more pics out of this thread considering the current popularity of tanodized parts. Hopefully more guys will post their stuff.

Here's a build of mine from years ago with a few tanodized parts.

Planning to take better pictures. But place holder for now. I was planning on running the lower receiver and upper on a 9.3 MK16. Having it be an all tanodized SBR.  But I’ve been sidetracked and haven’t been able to enjoy it assembled since no tax stamp. So I Swapped parts around from my URGI clone that’s P&W. Probably will still end up SBR’ing the lower sooner or later.

Some of the progress on my Tanodized build.  It will be a 13.7 pistol with a Rosco Purebred 13.7 inch stainless Barrel.  I am waiting for the m4 style upper and ar10 reciever extension from LMT/Allegiant and a tanodized modlite head. I also still need a handguard.  It will most likely be a 13 inch DDC MK8 from Geissele if they ever come back in stock (or I find another high quality 13 inch tanodized free float rail)

Parts list:
LMT
MARS-L lower reciever (tano)
M4 Stripped Upper (tano)
AR10 Reciever Extension (tano)

Forward Controls Design
EPC - Ejection Port Cover  (tano)
ESF - End Plate  (tano)

MK8 13 inch DDC (tano)
Fold up BUIS DDC  (tano)

ALG
Forged Sling Swivels DDC (tano)

BCM
Gun Fighter's Grip Mod 0 Tan

Eotech EXPS3-0T

Unity Tactical
Fast Riser FDE (tano)
Hot Button MLOK  (tano) (when this gets released)

Valhalla Tactical BALDR light body  (tano)

Surefire DS00 Tailcap  (tano)

Surefeed E2 Enhanced magazine  (tano)

Rosco Manufacturing 13.7 inch midlength Purebred

Thanks!

So do I.  Thats why I ordered the LMT AR10 reciever extension, so I can still use the A5 system.

I wish I could find someone selling an FN FDE P-LOK rail.  I tried the FN proshop but they shut down the pro shop or something.

Its not released yet.  I spotted it on an IG post and asked when they were going to be shipping them and they said I won it!  My understanding is that they should be available shortly.  Modlite will also soon be coming out with full tanodized lights.

Only RGuns product I’ve owned was a tanodized RE with an internal finish that looked like it was extruded using a rifling button.  Only way to know for sure is to try one, but I wouldn’t have super high expectations.

@00xjclassic, is it confirmed that you can use an LMT AR10 length tube with all VLTOR A5 system spring and buffer with no issues? They are the same internal length?

Also pic for the color anodize thread:

Still waiting on a VLTOR ODG stripped upper for it

Cloud Defensive COR rail and OWL in their FDE anodizing. Also an ADM T1 mount in FDE anodizing. The receivers are custom mixed Cerakote. Super neutral and matched in low light and overcast. Both are much more colorful and more 50 shades in sunlight.

Everyone's tastes are different, but everything I've had in DDC was way too gold. Same reason I don't like the color on the TLR1 but oh well. Long as it functions.

I have not confirmed that yet.

I have always read that the A5 system is based on and AR10 receiver extension, an ar15 rifle length spring and the proprietary buffer.  I do have another build that is using a magpul ar10 RE (advertised as working with ar10 and A5 systems),a Vltor A5H2 buffer weight and have used a no name rifle spring and a G$ super 42 rifle spring.

As soon as the ar10 receiver extension shows up, I will try it out.

Haha, I am still working on a full tanodized build that may fit better in here. This is a 16" 458 socom rifle to use with handloaded subsonic rounds with my Obsidian 45 pistol can.

Tan Anodized components:

Geissele Black Friday upper and lower pair in DDC with G DDC trigger guard
Geissele Mk2 15" in DDC (Mk8 in 13" DDC up top to compare what I like better, sticking with the Mk2)
Colt tan anodized buffer tube, lighter sand color vs. the more red ones
PRI tan anodized gas buster
Reptilia tan anodized dot mount

I really like the way the older DDC rail contrasts the newer upper and lower. Just wish the upper was a bit darker to match the lower better.

Awesome builds dude. I'm kicking myself for not getting in on that green lmt lowers that were sold by BPT a few months ago. The full tano build looks amazing as well. Your colt buffer tube is much lighter than the darker/redder few that I have.

Thank man, I appreciate that. I picked up the lower assembled from Thoroughbred Armament after I also missed the stripped ones from BPT. Wish I could find a LMT upper chassis in ODG anodized to properly finish it off.

I did, yes. I call that color "Dusk"

I bought a Colt "tanodized" tube for this build I started but it's a lot more brown than I thought. I'm looking for more of the FDE/DDC color and Geissele is out of stock on their DDC tubes. Are there Colt tubes that are lighter in color?

Colt had two colors in the brown spectrum; a reddish brown, and a gold bronze. My rifle above shows the gold bronze color Colt receiver extension.

Any insight on a tanodized stripped upper (other than RGuns) would be greatly appreciated. I'm half tempted to buy a matt sand unit from RGuns anyway, as there's nothing else I can find.

I don't really need it, but I've found the anno is much easier to clean after a range day. I shoot suppressed only.. Cerakote is too much work. Looks good though.

I don't really care what color variation "tan" it is either, as this build is 50 shades already. Form1 stamp should be in the email within the next few weeks..

Are Outdoor Tactical Supplier and Tiger Rock Inc the same place?

I often wonder about entities like those. Even their model numbers are the same. It's part of what leads me to be curious about the origin of those parts

@MackDaddy1962

Sadly, buying a complete FN rifle is the only way I know of currently to get a tanodized USGI receiver set (other than RGuns).

I put them on there. Buyer beware.

If anyone has any negative feedback about any of these parts, they can post it here. There's already been at least one negative thing said about RGuns parts.

@pezboytate

No worries brother. I’m on the Geissele wait list for their upper/lower (unobtanium, I know.)

I may give RGuns a try. The Cerakote lower is no big deal, but anodized uppers clean up much easier when suppressed. I’m being a whiny little bitch here, I know...

Rock on, great thread.

Does anyone else have experience with RGuns receiver extensions? Some pics would be great. I’ve heard good and bad about RGuns over the years, but $20 for a 7075 sandodized RE seems worth the gamble.

ETA: Somehow missed this, 0 for 2 for RGuns so far.
