ETA Muzzle brake is ordered. Too late to turn back now.

Probably going to have CLE turn a Douglas barrel 16", 6.5G, and in MK12 profile.

You won't regret it. I've got a month or two left til I can take my 5-30 home. I don't take my ears off but with muffs I can't tell the difference between the tone of 5.56 through an AEM5 vs 5.56 through an AEM 5-30.

The bad decision fairy visited me today in the form of OD paint. J/K, I'm digging it.

PRI shows the 5/8 threaded brake in stock. The one I purchased came with a short collar.

AE can make an AEM5 can bored for 6.5g, 6.8spc, .300 blackout... just have to call and order direct

Also, a machinist that retired from my shop owns an engine lathe, barrel collar location shall be fixed on my 6.8 Bison barrel soon-ish.

Everything ordered, including AEM5-22 bored to 6.8.

I did go with the CLE Douglas barrel with SPR (Mk12) profile.

Going to use a PRI Gen 3 hand guard and recce rail for this "what if" rifle.

Now I gotta decide on an optic and mount. Gotta be something modernish like a NF ATACR or a Vortex Razor Gen3.

For the PRI handguard install, do I need to order one of their barrel nut wrenches or will a Brownells Armorer's wrench work?

Looking at the Brownells wrench, it will probably work. Maybe someone else can confirm..

Can't beat the PRI wrench though. Its seems like a helluva lot easier to use with a torque wrench IMO.

Not sure about the spacing on the Brownells. I didn't have an armorers wrench at the time so I got a $5 spanner wrench in town, worked just fine. Easiest handguard install I've done.

I'm 87% sure I didn't buy any special wrench to install mine. It's been so long and my brain no worky, so YMMV.

I think it's because of all the paint fumes.

I did the same thing two years ago, got my AE5 bored for 6.5gr.  It works great, no real noticeable sound increase.

General question about the PRI top rail, I assume it makes the upper more rigid.  Presumably making it more accurate, in theory at least.

Is it worth the extra weight?

It probably makes the handguard a little more rigid, but won't help with overall accuracy.

It solely exists to bridge the upper and handguard to provide a rail for standard scope rings. No other reason. If you plan on using the ARMS rings, get that rail. If you want a single piece extended style mount like the Larue, you don’t need the rail
