I really love all of the cool carbines in this thread.  The A.R.M.S. SIR stuff is HOT.  I have a old Colt 727 upper, A2 sights, sitting around in a closet and I'm really tempted to put one of those crazy bi level SIR 51's on it.

Here is mine.  Certainly not especially interesting or unique, but I just wanted to post in this thread.

What the heck are you talking about, RAS II ROCKS, PERIOD.

And go for the ARMS SIR look.  No rifle, not even the Mod0, gets more attention at the range.
With HBAR 11.5" 1/7 barrel, SPECWAR suppressor, it's a delight to shoot with little noise or recoil.
Accuracy is excellent, and folks are amazed at how hot the suppressor gets after a 30 round mag.

@Edwin907, I love that A2 SIR.  It is just totally unique and representative of a very small window of time of add on rails and pre-universal adoption of a flat top receiver.

As for the RAS II, it is an excellent bit of gear and CHEAP.  They just don't have the wow factor of most of the stuff in this thread.

I will have to stay on the look out for an ARMS 51.

Nice build. Digging the Centurion love here, but you've omitted details on the one part that stood out to me the most... what vertical grip is that? Looks almost like a chopped down KAC.

I love it. What is your technique? Do you need to reem out new threads inside, or just shorten the plastic pillar? Have you cut any shorter than this one? You've inspired me to take a crack at this mod on one of mine.

Is your DBAL mounted directly to the rail?
View Quote
@Caeser2001 - It is! The Picatinny rail standard is based on Swan's original specification (ca 1986) which had both a standardized Weaver profile and a STANAG channel. The whole spec is retained in their products which means rails to clamp things on to and a STANAG channel down the middle for directly mounting STANAG attachments. Anything that lives in an ARMS-17/similar (basically a STANAG to Picatinny adapter) including many (all?) of Steiner's lasers will bolt down to most ARMS rails.

@Spatten - That RAS II is as iconic as the SIR rails with respect to that modular transitional phase! Super cool drop-in free-float piece. I imagine it has some pretty solid collector value, too!

Ended up doing a piston retrofit in mine to help keep the suppressor crap to a minimum and added a little era appropriate furniture to the mix!

Here is my contribution to the thread and my take on a MK18-ish build.

Basic specs:
Palmetto 10.5" CHF barreled upper
Centurian C4 carbine length cutout rail
RRA bolt carrier group
BCM gunfighter charging handle
Daniel Defense rear BUIS
KAC rail panels and vertical grip
Surefire G2 LED in a no-name mount a buddy gave me for a class years ago
RRA lower - was my first AR build from 1995
RRA 2-stage trigger
B5 buttstock
I usually run a Blue Force Gear Vickers sling on it, but I just put that on my newly stamped Z5P and haven't replaced it yet.

Love it. How do you like the TD BG 16? Looks a bit thin. What optic are you considering?
Link Posted: 10/30/2018 12:44:32 PM EDT
[#18]
I really like the grip. It has a nice aggressive texture and fits my hand pretty well. It is pretty thin though. Might not work for someone with really long fingers. It allows me to operate the selector lever very easily though.

I haven't settled on an optic for this rifle yet. Honestly I've been liking the clean/KISS irons only setup, but with my shitty eyesight I know I need one.

I've had a few different optics on this rifle in the past while it was configured much differently.
Eotech 512, Holosun 503GU, and a HiLux CMR 1424. I am leaning towards the Holosun again as that is what I have on my .22LR MK18-ish build.

Just a simple 16" carbine with a DD Omega drop in free float behind the FSB.

Magpul modified MS sling.  Ubiquitous Magpul MBUS folded rear sight.

Streamlight Pro Tac RM-1 in a Hailey Strategic Thorntail scout mount and ambi tape switch.

Hand stop is to index my support hand in the dark to position it to quickly activate the weapon light.

Deltapoint Pro with 7.5 MOA triangle reticle in an ADM QD mount.

Standard M4 furniture.  Keeping it simple.

My last build for the foreseeable future. You will notice some parts robbed from the other two. Ill have to get a family photo soon.

I thought I had a photo of that exact setup on my RAS 2, but can't find it.
It should work perfectly, the RAS 2 mount is 0.5" shorter than the LT755t so they should line up exactly.

My little contributions.... when FSP = Life but you gotta free float.

I have more FSP free floated builds in the works too... One is a light weight dissipator because I'm obsessed with dissy's and the other.....

I'm sure you all know what gun these parts belong too... and yes... the plan is to be clone correct.

Fun times. Love the complexity of how you have to install the rail, FSB, and gas tube all at the same time. Here is the finished product, which may or may not be up in the E to the E at the moment...

I was looking for something to spend the Christmas money on, then I saw the Troy Delta rail for under $200 (thanks to those who recommended it earlier in this thread!). Got it, installed it - it's much sturdier than I'd expected, I have no complaints. Very nice piece with a great solid feel to it - the tactile feel of aluminum is so much better than the standard plastic handguards that were in place before.

So I just got a bcm 14.5 with the fsb. I'm gonna have to cut the weld.on the MD so it's gonna be a pita to start with but I really want to throw a ff and cut it out for the fsb. I was thinking an 11" rail to cover the sides of the fsb and just Noth the front for the fsb. I'd like to use a slim handguard like a MI shl or bcm mcmr. Anyone have any pics and or insight?
I'm on the fence between this or just getting a geissele with the super gas black and removing the fsb.
