It's a 5/32 " bit, actually mics a bit oversize at .1565 at the widest portion of the flutes.  Shank mics .1545".

I may or may not have both dark and light shades of this rail stuck away for a rainy day. Unopened. Shoot me a message.

Sorry it's been a bit crazy. So the bit is micing .16 at some points (but my mic probably is way less accurate and less decimals than yours), and the set screw hole in the gas block is micing the same consistently...I'm guessing that isn't enough to be a problem? Won't ruin the threads?

OK, I know this doesn't belong in this thread but it was this thread and the builds that you guys did that inspired me to build my favorite firearm. It is more like a younger brother given its 10.5" barrel. Anyway, thanks to all for the inspiration, photos, ideas and details.

I really hesitate to tell anyone to do any mod work they're unsure of or not familiar with, as then I'll feel somewhat responsible if something goes wrong.  That said, if you just knock the peaks off the threads, it should be no problem.  You'll be chasing the threads with the tap afterwards anyway, when you thread it through the set screw hole to cut the new threads on the port side.  Be careful and take your time.

Don't worry, that's all I needed to know, that knocking the tips off the threads won't mash the hole. Makes sense chasing it will help. If the hole gets wrecked I'll chalk it up to tolerance stacking or a shitty fixture/using a hand drill, all my part . Oil ok or should I really be using tap magic?

Just listed a bunch of FBI clone parts in the EE including the Black Romeo 4M, Fed Green Mk4, 11.5 HRT barrel and Geissele GB with BRT insert to mimic the custom FBI block. Just wanted to post a heads up to this thread Incase anyone was looking.

Very nice bro... when I had my MK4 I tried running the VFG that far up and it always felt a little odd to me... tried it with my 3.1’s as well... It might just be that I like seeing them centered more than anything.. but this FED looks clean. Very well done

Any plans for a white light?

Ya know I haven’t really put much thought into it. I know the inforce wml is the route to go but I don’t know.

A few updates to complete the build.  I ran across an original DD 1/3 mount for the T2 and older Troy rear sight "non cage code" that folds down flat.

Beautiful job you did. One of my FAVs. I use that DD mount on mine. Works great and no spacer needed. Mine is not a clone and not worthy of this thread but even my 10.5" version brings a smile.

The real question is are they going to continue being holiday items until they run out, or are they gonna be just twice yearly production items?

Yeah but they’re not selling like they were before Dropgate. I already have a 13.5 & 9.3 Mk16 and I don’t really want to pay a premium for the ODG ACH.

I want it but not that bad.

I didn’t even really need an ODG mk4 but I’ve wanted one for a while. Might as well for $300 and at the very least maybe make a little money or break even. I’d like to build an hrt clone though. I just have so many other projects going on right now as well

Yes.

The standard issue FBI carbine has the black rail.

The grey is on a modified carbine with a Troy or Maxim PDW type stock used by a unit that primarily works out of vehicles.

SWAT gets OD green railed carbines.

The color coding of the guns by assignment / program  is for internal logistical / armorer purposes. If you are responsible for hundreds or thousands of guns little things like color coding can make your life easier.

See my pic on the previous page.
Although I was tempted to pick up the DDC MK4 this time around and build an HRT upper with a heavy barrel ... IIRC without going back and looking it up, the HRT upper is DDC with the heavy barrel.

There are photos on Page 1 of this thread showing Regional SWAT teams with OD green and HRT with black. My unit trained with a regional team two years ago that had green handguards on their weapons.

HRT using black G rails was pre adoption of the G Mk4 rail bureau wide. I want to say they were still using 416s at the time too, and the regional boys had 6933 with Troy rails. Right now it seems it's tan rails and sidearms for HRT, green rails and sidearms for regional swat, black rails and sidearms for "regular" agents. I'm surprised no one asks more questions about who gets the grey rails and sidearms. Or why ALG calls it a "federal" magwell.

Hey guys trying to suss through some of this. I just picked up one of the black rails and I have an extra Colt 11.5 hrt upper with fsb (I love the heavies!)

I know the gas block that comes with the rail technically isnt correct.....are any of you shaving the fsb on the heavy barrels and running it that way?  I've had a good bit of work done by John Thomas and would probably have him do the work if I go that route.

Best,
Jj
