Snakes would be less annoying than raccoons and skunks if they were of the non venomous type.  Now rattlers...  ewwwwww.  We don't have many snakes around here to worry about.  If any.  I've only ever seen gardner and grass snakes and neither is an issue.  Creepy but noting to worry about.

I forget if we even have poisonous snakes up here.  I think we might have coral snakes but I've never seen one.  I might not be right though...

I just googled it.  According to one sight we have timber rattlers and eastern massasauga that are poisonous.

Camp Shelby was ate up with rattlesnakes. One time at the Headquarters building 1001, one of the S1 shop ladies walked out to her car and walked right back in again, shaking her head, saying, "nope, nope, nope."

Turned out there was a 4' long rattler sunning itself on the pavement right by her drivers side door.

We all agreed: "NOPE."

Rattlesnakes were a bit of a nuisance at Fort Bliss, but most of the time, our guys were able to just avoid them. We saw some big fat ones out there. During my last training exercise, a SGT was bit by a baby rattler. The medics gave him anti-venom, and then we brought in a MEDEVAC bird to take him out. I’ve been told that the baby can’t control their venom output, so they can end up injecting more than a grown rattler will. Or maybe that’s scorpions...

I posted this in another thread but thought I’d share it here. This photo shows some of my guys conducting MOUT training at Fort Hood in late 2006. The number one and four men in the stack are carrying early FN M16A2s, according to my records and close ups of other weapons in the unit. Note that the guy up front has an M5 RAS with VFG on his A2, while the rear man still has the old plastic handguards. From reviewing other photos, it appears that most of our A2s had M5 rails by this point, with only a few (maybe 1 in 5) still using the old standard handguards.

I can’t post pics from my iPad , but I have an AR-15 A2 Government Carbine from 1988 I got in 1996 for $1100.00 and recently picked up a Colt AR15A2 HBAR Sporter complete lower for $250.00 . Brand new Govt profile barrel . The only difference between these two and an SP1 is the Roll marks . All three are slabsided .

I just found my spare “N” marked stock to use on my next 11.5 Colt Commando Upper that I got a few years ago a brand new in the wrapper N.O. S. 1997 . I am not sure what Colt model number that would be .

Damn; that A2 has been around. I wonder when it acquired that dimpled pivot pin. That's a pre A1 part.

That one was rebuilt at Anniston Army Depot, in Alabama. They evidently have a lot of older M16 internals in stock, because every one of their rebuilds I’ve seen has “Colt gray” pins, controls and other small parts.

Me near the DMZ in Korea, 1995 summer with M16A2/M203 in my Recon Platoon.

I was a Recon Assistant Team Leader at the time:

M16A2 with PAQ-4 FSB mount and BFA, around March of 1995 IIRC:

Spotted an Air Force cat in the North Line DFAC today with an A2 built on a “no fence” M16 lower, but didn’t get close enough to see the markings on it.

Here is my “ rescue rifle”. I have a thing for worn parts and dissapators. Found a chopped hbar on the ee, it had a flattop, well I swapped things around a bit and put on my beautifully patina’d FN upper and some well worn hand guards and stock (The upper was for sale, but thank god no one bit and I sold it, I would have regretted it)

Yes on the Hot Weather BDUs.  I rarely wore my Jungle Boots in the USMC then, preferring the Speedlace.  But fast forward 10 years and AF TACP, I wore them out and did a re-sole with Vibram.
ETA:  Flak Jackets SUCKED!!!!!  Later I realized those stupid Fritz helmets sucked too!  MICH was a big improvement.

I might very well be the only person on the planet with this photo collection, as all the hard drives, CDs, floppies and hard copy prints disappeared after we closed down the PAO shop in 2013. I don't have any idea what happened to all that stuff, which is why I went through and copied every file, every photo and scavenged up all the old hard copy stuff I could find before we shut down.

I thought about offering the stuff up to the Armed Forces Museum on Camp Shelby, but I doubt this stuff would ever see the light of day again.

I might try contacting the Army Center for Military History and see if they'd be interested.

@fadedsun

I might. I will have to dig through the giant pile of discs I have in storage, though.

I should start an Instagram account just for all those old Camp Shelby pics...
