Saying it's limited to 100 cans, first come.

I don't see the option for 25% down/balance when done, just full payment.

Use code 25down at checkout. Gonna be pretty disappointed if I miss out. Didn’t know this was gonna be a public ordeal. Thought everyone could get one from the group buy.

The 416-SD (and early M4-2000s) were not Cerakote. It's an older coating (would need to reference my old docs to see what it was, maybe GunKote) that's courser, flatter and does wear quicker. For those of us collector nerds finding a can with this older coating adds a little value (along with the older markings). At some point in the M4-2000 production AAC introduced Cerakote and that finish doesn't wear off quick (at least any quicker than any other suppressor). You can always send in your can to them and get it re-coated but they'll only repaint it with the newer cerakote, they don't do the old coating anymore (hence the collector value). So if you get a Cerakote can, it won't wear off quickly.

Hard to capture in a photo, the difference is more stark in person, but here's a comparison: (Cerakote on top)

Thanks for the info. My new can just had a piece of paint chip off near the latch. It was originally 1 chip and then with my finger nail became 2 chips lol. Not a big issue as I don't mind getting it recoated at a later time.

I find myself with spare gen 3 & gen 4 upper and 11" SD rail - I'm thinking I want to do the SD Rail 8.5 navy barrel thing. I have a few questions:

  • Are the barrels 8.5" or 8.6"?

  • Are their old 300 blackout 8.5 barrels from the Johnny days, then sample guns that are different from those barrels? How can I tell (twist rate, cage code, any other give ways to this is one of "those" barrels?

  • The Instagram has gen 4 upper and lower, do we know more about what got sent in for testing? Was it a gen 4 or gen 3 with gen 1 lower like what got selected?

  • Does anyone have one of these 8.5 navy barrels collecting dust?

I have entered that weird non-standard never fielded clone world...why not?
Thanks Yall and congratulations on getting Bauer and AAC to do the cans. I'm always impressed how far yall are willing to go, the nitride hardware was very cool, thanks for doing those LSU guy, the m4-2000 is very cool, the amount of tano ATACR's in the thread are impressive. I don't have ATACR and accessory budgets at the moment, so I'm living vicariously though yall.

None of this has anything to do with this thread.

  • Are their old 300 blackout 8.5 barrels from the Johnny days, then sample guns that are different from those barrels? How can I tell (twist rate, cage code, any other give ways to this is one of "those" barrels?

  • Of course there are, since he's the one who named them. The "Navy" barrels have absolutely nothing to do with this thread or devgru contract, it's purely the name Noveske gave their 8.5" barrels just like they named their Diplomat, Shorty, Afgan, Infidel, etc… lengths.

Tan ATACRs also have nothing to do with this thread and aren't correct for this build.

I think you might have accidentally clicked on the wrong thread. I think there's a Noveske section in the Industry forum that may be what you're looking for where they can answer some of your questions.

A page back you are saying, "End of the day this is just a nerdy hobby and should be fun… use what makes ya happy." Now you are saying being 100% clone correct, and don't ask question in the thread- and I'm seeing photos of tan atacrs telling dudes I like them, and that it's cool that guys went the extra mile to get us nitride hardware and a group buy of cans, that's awesome. It's been fun to watch and be a part of lightweight barrels come available, gen 3 uppers go from unobtanium to everywhere, gen 1 lowers turn to unobtanium, and now m4-2000 group guys/preorders. It's fun and interesting to watch the production cycles, scarcity of certain parts, and supply show back up. Cloning's more of the hunt and dedication to me than the finished product. I assume it's that way for more folks than just me.

My 8.5 Navy SD rail question is I was under the impression from, earlier in the thread that Noveske submitted a few different configurations before the final selection, and one of those was a 8.5 with 11" SD rail. This configuration was not selected and they sold off the 8.5 navy barrels. But it sounds like that designation predates this contract/selection. Can you shut that down or help me find more info on that?

My "use what makes you happy" comment was obviously directed at the choice between two issued parts for this specific rifle.

A 8.5" barrel was never tested for this contract, neither was an SD rail. There was some confusion on the barrel back in the day (specifically because of the naming and a marketing photo that Noveske posted) that has since been cleared up. And there's never been a question on the SD rail. Nor has there been any question about tan atacrs. The solicitation specified barrel length and over all length requirements. (hence the original LWRC stock). Neither of those parts, an 8.5" barrel, SD rail or tan atacrs have anything to do with this clone/info thread and I'm simply pointing out there *are* threads elsewhere on this site that have an audience that'd love to help you with them.

Then AAC has a new contract for them that gets sent to Va beach. All of the evidence points to the rumors being true. No one is forcing you to buy an AAC can.

You are basing this essentially on one photo? Looks like Green Team to me.

Now the whole thread has switched to a AAC marketing campaign & sales I am sure they desperately need.

I would caution you on jumping to conclusions based on limited info that greatly benefits a competitor. This is how we have been told for 20 years the HK416 sucks, Eotech sucks, HK417 sucks, Glock sucks, 1911 sucks, Sig sucks, etc, etc, etc.

Definitely not green team. One of the guys has a gold squadron crusader cross on his shirt on the left sleeve. I don’t think they’d let candidates wear any colors during a selection process. And I definitely don’t think this thread has become an AAC campaign, it’s just the most recent thing that has become available to cloners. If NT4s became available for a group buy the mk18 thread would be come a NT4 campaign by that same logic. We all bought the dead air can, not for its shining performance but because it was clone correct. And let’s be brutally honest, clone guns are not the best guns out there. There is definitely lighter, better shooting guns and optics than what’s issued. So if we’re solely searching performance we should toss all these guns. All the dudes that used to be cool guys and still shoot, not one clones their guns from work. I think there’s a good reason for that.

We’ve seen magpul asap on some guns. It’s also listed in the original booklet. But in some pictures noveske has shown of the finished guns, just show the noveske QD end plate. I’ve had the magpul asap and she’s a noisy bitch. Went back to the noveske end plate.

They notoriously don't use QD sling mounts, but pretty much any other way has been seen. The most commonly observed being just simple paracord.

Noveske ships the guns with the QD endplate, but we've seen quite a few pop up in photos where it's been swapped out. Magapul, HK, MI all come to mind in terms of pics I have but I'm sure there's more. Probably just whatever is sitting around in the parts bin there when they go to swap it.

For the front mount, the rifle ships with the standard RSA, and it shows up sometimes, but I'd say the majority of pics we see they're not using it and just using paracord tied on the handguard.

Makes sense. What attachment point do they use on their sling? Magpul Paraclip perhaps?

Since most of the pics we've seen most recently show there is no picatinny RSA mount, are they using the m-lok RSA mount then?

Can also just direct thread it through the handgaurd or RSA. I really wouldn't stress it just use what you like.

    direct thread through the RSA.

super interesting to see that threaded through the m-lok slot. I would think that after 1 or 2 mag dumps the barrel could easily melt the sling though...?

Now the whole thread has switched to a AAC marketing campaign & sales I am sure they desperately need.

I would caution you on jumping to conclusions based on limited info that greatly benefits a competitor. This is how we have been told for 20 years the HK416 sucks, Eotech sucks, HK417 sucks, Glock sucks, 1911 sucks, Sig sucks, etc, etc, etc.

Do you work for DA or something? I don’t understand why it matters so much to you to white knight in this thread for them?

I don’t have a horse in this race either, decided to run my Surefire from my CQBR, so no bias either way.  Just seems odd everyone’s having a normal conversation about the new cans and you come in argumentative like someone’s insulted your mother lol

Edit.  They should have chose 556RC's.  it looks sooo good on there lol

Yeah it’s odd. I’m admittedly a dead air fanboy and have been let down with my sandman S (twice actually).

I might abandon my clone and switch out to a 12.5” build. I personally believe a 12.5” noveske is the moves but I don’t get to make these important decisions. Just excited for the AAC M42K.

Like I said, it’s ONE photo. Then complete guessing based on another companies marketing.

Yeah they shoot what they can get for free, or they get paid to shoot.
