The cerakote raw or over anno debate is interesting. For years I have wondered why factory Noveke Bazooka green guns look good, and then every gun done by a cerakoter looks like bight green pureed peas? This might be the answer - starting with a etched anno surface vs raw.
Does anyone have experience getting a gun done in Bazooka Green? |

Emailed noveske on cerakoting. They told me they do leave a light anodizing on prior to coating. I also spoke with a recommended coater(by noveske reps) noveske used for the wrm fzy collaboration rifles they did, which they didnt have any anodizing when noveske sent them the guns to cerakote. Apparently those guns are holding up well though. The recommended Cerakoter (sp?) told me they couldn’t reanodize and coat like noveske but they could be bead blast to leave a light Cerakote and then apply another layer leaving two layers of protection so they when it wears, there’s FDE underneath and not silver.

All the talk about cerakote over amo made me want to add my 2 cents. 7075 and 6061 without type 3 hardcoat is a completely different animal than with the ano. The abrasion resistance, surface hardness and corrosion resistance of type 3 hardcoat ano alum makes it suitable for use in military small arms. without that ceramic skin the aluminum will almost certainly experience premature wear from regular use.
If I had anything to do with procurement where guns had to stand up to hard use I would insist any coating be applied over anodize. |

Now it's a matter of how to correct the cerakote job. Can our rifles be anodized again and cerakoted in this manner? or is a double layer of cerakote, as offered by Noveske's cerakoter, be our only option since the anodizing has been blasted off. |

Have him sandblast it to raw aluminum, build up the area with some weld. Sand it down flush with the sides. Take your time. Send it out to be sandblasted again and Cerakoted (anodizing over the weld will not look right). This solution will likely cost more than a new stripped upper. The cheap fix: Just hit it with some sandpaper on a block. Knock the protrusions down. Send it to someone to have it coated or rattle can it. This is the Way. If it really bothers you for a safe queen build: Sell the stripped upper and buy a new one. |
