Hi guys,

I am looking to do my first build for ar15 pistol in 7.62

Can some one help me on buffer tube I should use?

Should I go complete upper or to collect parts myself I have the armors tool kit for AR15.

Where can I get bolt carrier group an stripped upper.?

Hi Tim,

I recommend using an RE10 / A5 buffer tube.

This is an extended carbine buffer tube or an extended pistol buffer tube, depending on which version you get.

RE10 takes carbine takes carbine stocks and adjustable pistol braces.

A5 takes slip on pistol braces.

For 308, use a regular, full length fixed stock AR10 buffer spring along with a 5.56 M4 H3 buffer.

The newer RE10 tubes have 7 positions and some companies make clones with 8 positions.

With a pistol brace only 6 of the positions can be used.

Spikes Tactical still makes a high quality 6 position 308 carbine buffer tube, which was the original RE10 tube, before a 7th position was added towards the receiver.

Pistol braces are too short to use the 7th position.

Possible springs for extended tube.

This is the whole kit, but sold out.

If you want a slip on brace, try to find an A5 pistol tube, but do not use the A5 buffer and spring as they are for 5.56.

For 308, use the above 308 springs and H3 / T3 buffers.

The above parts do not use 308 buffers or 308 carbine springs.

With the extended tube, use 308 rifle spring with M4 H3 buffer.

Oh, this is the AR piston forum, not the AR pistol forum.

If it is a piston 308 pistol, normally those use an M4 H2 buffer (maybe an H3), but with a regular direct impingement gas system,an M4 H3 buffer is normally used.

If it doesn't have a gas piston, and most 308 pistols don't, just use an M4 H3 buffer (called T3 by Spikes).

The barrel nut wrench is different for 308.

308 barrels are in short supply right now.

Ballistic Advantage and Aero Precision have the same 12.5" barrels.

If bought from Ballistic Advantage (when in stock) you can get a factory pinned gas block.

The Aero Precision 308 bolts have double o-rings which usually makes the extractor too tight.

308 pistols put a out of fouling back into the bolt.

The Cryptic Coatings 308 bolt carrier groups seem reliable and are easer to clean.(expensive)

Nitride Toolcraft 308 bolt carrier groups are reasonable and not too difficult to clean.

Hi guys,

thanks a lot for the help. I ended up getting a bear creek 7.62x39 upper in 10.5 and assembled a stripped lower.

The only issue is the standard pistol grip does not fit flush.

The lower is an ar57 the company looks like is out of business and the lower has the thread for the pistol grip and another hole on it.

The pistol grip works but the grip does not go flush on the horizontal line it’s like 3 mm off.

I tried the pistol grip on and ar15 rifle and it goes as it should. I think the pistol grip for this one must not me standard.

Image of it

Does anyone know what kind of pistol grip I might need??

Hi Guys,

I ended up trimming the side that was touching first against the trigger and now it is ~3 mm shorter as a grip but it seats ok ??.

Thanks a lot for your help
