Sure is, got so focused on the mount I didn't pay attention to what was on it. It's cheaper than insight and doctor so that's cool.

And jungles at that. Most favorite pair of boots I ever had were jungles. I re-soled them at least 6 times.

I wasn't talking about him.  He's more old skool than ya'll.  Woodland, Aluminum mag with parcord and tape for the grab.  I mean, how could he NOT HAVE MAGPUL???

But actually I was talking about the guns.....  j points on scopes, flush mounted cans, atlas bipods.   I mean, I didn't even see an atlas til like 5 years ago.  I probably just missed them though....  Or maybe I'm just getting my timeline wrong.

Anyways....  I was looking for that old pic of the recce that's all sort of blurry, small pic.  It's got just a x33 type scope on it  with a one piece mount that was sort of like the armalite mounts.  No target turrets.  ARMS 6-9 and a sopmod....    Has a rail of course.  I can't find that pic.

Now that's old skool.  Among others.  I'm debating on sending back my leupy VX-1 2-7 to the factory because I busted the objective bell.  But maybe they could fix it and stuff a better reticle in there.  Something with some sort of BDC and then I wouldn't even need target turrets.  Since the VX-1 doesn't even have click adjustments.

Guess it depends on your definition of old school. Most, if not all, the parts everyone are using are over 10 years old.

I hear ya.  I was just giving you all a hard time.  I like everything OLD, cuz I'm getting old.  LOL.  I was around here when the recce was first a "thing".

Do you know what picture I'm talking about?  I swear every time I download that one to my computer it eventually morphs into a file that doesn't work.   It's kind of a small pic and not real clear.  And almost black and white looking.  I think it's basically all black but I think it has some KAC rail panels that are painted tan.  Actually, I should just go back to the first few pages.  Maybe it's up there.

I know, but I gotta give you a hard time back....haha. I enjoy the older builds, it just takes forever to track down the right parts. If they are still made, chances are high that they have been revised once or twice which means you have to track down the originals. Then when you find them, you pay prices that are insane. I really wanna do a build with an old armalite tube. Still looking though. As far as the pic, I cant think of which one you are referring to. If you find it, throw it up!

I went through the first 15 pages in here and it's not there.  I thought I posted it in here, but I don't have it in my imgur account.  So I must not have.  I will post it if I ever find it.....

It's this one.  I could make a pretty close clone to this one if I had the right mount.  I'm not exactly sure what kind of scope that is, but my 2x7 looks....  similar.

I wonder if that mount is an armalite mount.  It's really hard to tell.  The knobs look like they kind of match but not sure about the ring shape....

I'm trying to DL that pic and it just won't......  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I like how it has a rear sight but no front.  Anyone got any idea what kind of mount and scope that is?

Also, that sopmod stock don't look completely normal though...  ewwwwww

I should do that other one I like....  My only thing is there's no way I'm affording a NF.......It would have to be some kind of 1-4 that looks similar.....

So the top one, the sopmod has has the bottom inch or so trimmed and looks like they made a hook on the bottom in the very back when they trimmed it, most likely as a catch for shooting off a bag. It's got what looks like a kac 300m rear. As far as the mount and optic, no clue on that. That is pre my time.....haha. I would just try and clone the rifle honestly. If you try to clone the black and white I'd give you a pass on  the optic, bc once you finally did ID it and the mount it would probably take you 5 years to find.

There are a few different variations of the Wilcox MRDS mounts used by the Navy that fit the Nightforce rings.  The 35101P01 is for the Docter and is commonly used on the Mk14 and Mk17.  The 30501P01 is for the JPoint, and the 30500G01 is for the JPoint but has protective side walls.

I’m still wondering what dot/mount is on the very first rifle? Doesn’t look like any MRDS mount I’ve seen. Top of the mount is very bulky. Or mYbe it’s a J Point with the cover on. Just a weird angle.

If you look at the second pic, the hood looks more pronounced, so I would lean toward doctor. But that first pic, its definitely harder to tell.

That's not a bad idea.....  But I don't think that's what's on that one.  The hensoldt's seem a bit less.... pronounced in the front and back....  I think.  CD once posted them in the A2 forum.  I'll have to go look at that again if it didn't get archived.

I think the second photo is of an SR25; looks to me like the upper receiver has a blockier, triangular shape, but the dust cover looks kinda small. I honestly can't tell for sure. It does look like a URX II though.

X24 On 14.5 SR25. Boom there it is!

EDIT: Upon further inspection. Doesn’t it look like this rifle has a brass deflector? Also why is the gas block set so far away from the rail. Almost like it is a rifle length gas system with a mid length rail. Speaking about the rifle in question. Not the rifle in this quote.

The brass deflector is the detachable KAC deflector seen on the early Mk11s.

And that's not the gas block...that's the interface between the muzzle device and the attached KAC 7.62 corn cob type can.

I'm not really seeing where it looks like a rifle length gas system.  The rifle with the Nightforce and J-Point is the same configuration as the painted rifle with white background in the other photo.  That one is Brit Slabinski's rifle and the pic is from the Navy History and Heritage Command.  I wouldn't really call it a prototype.  Pretty sure it was called the Mk11 Carbine or SR 25 Battle Rifle.
This one is also the same...from Col. Lutz.

Shit, I never noticed the muzzle device. That's totally a 3T which means Slab ran a 7.62mm NT4 on that sucker. According to the history, several guys including Defoor were carrying SR25s on that mission, which means they were likely using 7.62mm 'Cobs as well.

Wonder why KAC never mass-produced those NT4s. They were obviously good enough to issue to SMUs on some level.

Awesome, thanks.

The short barrel, angle of the pic, and partial receiver shot threw me. I didn't realize there were SR25's with such short barrels and the only suppressors I had paid attention to on this platform were the long ones on the M110's and Mk 11's.

I was hoping this was a recce variant with a URX. I already have the Mk12 Mod1 clone with the free float RAS and was wanting something a bit different.

Thanks again

If you're planning on doing a pinned/welded flash hider to avoid NFA-related things, then yes, you need to have gas block, barrel nut, collar and muzzle device already rarin to go.  The collar won't fit over the threads, and the gas block won't slip over the collar, and the barrel nut won't slip over the gas block.....so it's all gotta be installed before welding.  I actually scavenged the FFRAS off my mod 1 upper to put my recce together during the whole month of zuck thang d. wilson did.

If you're not doing a pin/weld, then have at it.
