When people think of an A1 they think of a fixed carry handle. That is the defining feature of an A1. This isn't a clone specific thread where every small detail is scrutinized but you'll notice that every other rifle posted in here has a fixed. At first glance I would classify your rifle as more A4 than anything.

Your post doesn't bother me but I'm just letting you know where most others are probably coming from.

I think of things like triangular handguards, pistol grip w/o bump, rifle length pencil barrel and fixed stock when I hear "A1."  Not just carry handle.   And I specifically exclude cartridge deflectors 'cause those things aren't on A1s.

This isn't a clone thread so it's open to different interpretations.  Many of the guns I've seen I wouldn't consider "modern" in any way. Like the gun Lancelot's posted 3 times in this thread.

Not bothered either just giving my opinion in a tech/picture thread that didn't spell out any real rules.  And bumping the thread 'cause I like it.

Is this one any better?  It has a carry handle.

If I was an LE agency that had a bunch of M16A1 rifles on a tight budget, putting a flat top upper on it is exactly what I'd do to modernize it.  I like it.

Weird thread, one could argue that there isn't anything modern about most rifles on here.

Update from pg.8.
Other than occasionally putting a red dot via an old school aimpoint carry handle mount, she's done.

Nope, that's a 9mm upper.  The LMG uppers have the brass deflector.

Correct. It’s a Rock River 9MM “A2” upper with a hole drilled for the gas tube.

Would this count?  No carry handle, but the LaRue rear is A1 style, it's got an A1 length CavArms stock, pencil .625 18" barrel, and is long and lightweight.

So the sight picture, fixed stock length, and barrel profile are all correct....

Hey all,

Looking for a rifle to train the fiancee...thought an IDF style A1 16" pencil barrel would be ideal. Who makes a reasonably priced complete (with or without BCG/CH) 16" barrel upper with A1 carry handle?

Wanted a fun light weight carbine.  Picked up the 15.5 brownells barrel assembly on sale and an inexpensive C7 upper.  A little under 7lbs and shoots very soft.  Reliable even with PMC .223 blaster ammo.  A little retro.  A little modern.

I have the BRN-16A1 (the, uh, A1 clone of course) and I shoot left-handed.  So of course I was wondering if I was going to catch hot brass to the face.  I only have about 160 rounds of XM193 through it so far, but I've never been hit with a case.  Judging by where the brass is landing (about 4:30), I'd say the cases aren't clearing my head by much but they ARE clearing.  For what it's worth.

The guys from Forgotten Weapons shot a whole bunch of fun stages (several videos) using the BRN-605.  One of the guys, Ian McCollum (aka "Gun Jesus"), shoots left-handed.  The cases don't clear his head by much, but I don't think he ever got hit.

wouldn't this be a dissapator?  any function problems with something like this?  rifle length gas system with that much barrel chopped off of the end?

and would standard a2 flash make it 16 inches?
