Does anyone have any real world differences between these two? I have a considerable amount of the federal, I was wondering if it’d be worth selling for 262. For the record, the guns it’ll be shot in will be a Kac rifle and Kac pistol.

I wouldn’t go through the effort of that. It’s not quite six of one, half a dozen of the other, but it’s close enough. Your gun may prefer one over the other, but as a generality 262 shoots warmer, and Federal 77’s (is this FGMM, or?) shoots more precisely. I’d let your rifle and priorities decide what you stick with, but I’d probably buy a box or two of the other stuff and see how it goes, and if it shot better I’d probably just shoot what I had and replace instead of trading out.

I've shot both......
If you mean FGMM Federal 77's....... sortta slow but accurate. mk262 can run hotter and so not as precise..... But to be honest, unless you are shooting out to 600+yds..... shoot what you have and be done with this. I'm not sure what KAC rifle you have but you are splitting hairs in any pistol.... And right now, trying to buy mk262 is a HUGE PITA and you'll pay up WAY TOO much than it's worth. |
|
|
Yeah I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with either of them in a comparison and yes, it’s GMM
|
|
|
If memory suits me.... the 77gr FGMM is quite a bit slower then the Mk262.
So, dependent on what you are using the 77gr bullet for... self defense ? or target shooting ? |

There’s no reason to dump one for the other right now unless one is not shooting well. This would be a decent discussion to have in normal times, but right now it’s not prudent because resupplying with the intended ammo would be difficult and not cost effective due to outrageous ammo costs.

I don't know what will happen, or if anything will happen. But if something does, I'd rather be the guy with a gun than the guy without one.

Thanks. I have some Sierra 77's inbound and will be starting load development once I find some powder.

IMI 77 OTM LR Mod 1 (262 clone?) is silly accurate in my aug. Like >1 moa. Black hills 77gr in the same gun on the same day is maybe 3 moa iirc. Barely better than cheap blasting ammo.
I should fit a scope to my ar and try each but just don’t have much. Maybe terminal ballistics make up for it with more velocity though I thought it was optimized for shorter barrels? It’s all so tiresome. |

I have one 1n7 twist barrel that pretty much hates all 77gr ... except the no longer available Sierra 77gr .223 load from Creedmoor Sports... and all 75gr Hornady.... so yeah,Lol.. YMMV. |
