Hi all,

Thank you for your kind thoughts & prayers regarding my Dad.

I have a list of those who contacted me & see my original thread is closed.

I’ve reached out to the machinist & will forward pics when I have samples.

As an aside, will 607 rear caps work with a standard triangular front end cap?  I’ve been told no—@Cal30M1 have you done this with a 607 or have a new rear made?

Thank you

ETA: order placed 01/19/18, expect pics in 2 weeks

Ever since I was infected with RBRD THIS intrigued me!

So my unskilled ass made THIS to try to replicate it as close as a ham fisted garbage man could using off the shelf stuff.

MANY differences between what was and what got made.

What was has 9 holes on the top of the guards and modern mid length only has room for 8.

Someone on here said something about the original is close to Knights Armament mid length from back in the day but don't quote my forgetful ass on that.

To make the handguards fit using the "cheaper" 607 style rear cap I had to trim the front "lip" off and reprofile to accept the front cap;

And in addition to cutting the rear of the handguards to size, in order to use the 607 rear cap designed for the shorter carbine gas system, I had to JB Weld "shims" on the inside of the rear guards and file them down to fit inside the smaller 607 rear cap.

And it came out looking like this;

So NOW I have moved the pictured 16" barrel with the .750 under the FSB onto a middie A2 and replaced it with a 14.7" "proper" retro barrel with a brilliantly executed rear bayonet lug!

More pics when I get around to it.

It will in carbine gas systems. See above for what I had to do to mod it up for my "front part of the handguard" mid length.

Now with a larger rear cap for a middie I MAY not have had to do that but I am anal about symmetry and I wanted all whole holes!

Having a piece of a hole in the back would have irritated me like that .750 FSB on the original middie build did. (Hell it STILL bothers me on the A2 middie!)

I thought about filling in the half hole but would have had to paint it and I like original finish.

A member was kind enough to root through their snaggle tooth stash for a pair of gaurds missing front teeth for if you get this production run going.

I'ma have to ask him if he has any with just rear teeth missing so I can fornicate with a new set since I NOW have a Heat N Beat 607 cap to play with!

Itching to try this out.

I'ma start it out on the gray A2 middy mutt with the .075 FSB and see how I like it.

That looks really good. I want one. I was unaware of an "era" mid-length. Very cool!

Calling or emailing Marty are options to get the caps.

I’m very pleased with mine.

Where does one source a .625 mid-length barrel?

If you look through Usgi hgs. They crack at about the same spot. It the front this cap flows better with that
